Ceramic Daytona vs 321 Ed White

Looking to add a black dial sports chrono and haven't seen this comparison brought up much before

Daytona is a more sporty and robust

The 321 is more interesting and collectable

Would not be a daily piece, would fit into rotation

WR is not a concern

I'm leaning 321 currently (only just) which would you choose?

The other one looks very similar to many moonwatches in the catalogue .Past,present and future.

I’ve had both of these watches (I currently own the 321). For me, the speedy would be the choice but the reality is they are both fantastic and there’s no wrong answer.

I see lots of comments such as the above about how similar it looks, but in general those who write that have never handled one being very hard to come by. It’s absolutely nothing like the current 3861 moon watch when you put them together and it’s finish etc is completely different league. It also wears very different to the speedy pro.

While these watches are apparently a very similar size, the 321 wears bigger. Probably down to the straight lugs.

One added point for the speedy is the versatility. The bracelet is top drawer, but it also looks fabulous on leather (and even nato if that’s your bag).

Love Omega, but I’m not a fan of faux vintage. I would’ve liked this watch with it’s current dial, steel bezel and hesalite, but that’s just me.

So because of that, I’d go with the Daytona. Otherwise, I might lean Speedmaster

Tough call.

I would go with the daytona if I could have only one watch.

But I’m probably going to go with 321 if I were to add another piece to my collection. The 321 movement will for sure be more entertaining than the daytona, I like examining the back once in a while.

This is something we hear a lot here as well.

The truth of the matter is the indices are made the same as the original. In real life, they are quite subtle and more of an egg shell color … not what I would call faux vintage at all.

In practical use, the slight color variation makes the hour and minute hands super readable.

The 321 I’ve lusted after it since it’s release. I will add one eventually but there are a few other timepieces higher on my list before this one gets checked off. Both are amazing pieces that do well in anyones collection.

I think that’s a really good point. If an only watch, the extra water resistance of the Daytona is very useful.

I remember I took mine on holiday about 4 years ago and wore it in the pool/ sea - basically never took it off for 2 weeks.

I wouldn’t do that with the 321. It will be evenings only, and something else for pool and beach duties

If it was my only watch, Daytona, simply because of the WR. Assuming it isn’t, then the 321.

Had that Daytona not very legible under many light conditions. So the Ed for that reason alone.

I love Daytonas (owned two), and I am still voting for the Omega. Better all around chronograph in my opinion.

I voted Daytona, because it's beautiful, but wouldn't actually want one unless it's only wrist jewelry. I mean, look at that image, you can barely read the time and screw down pushers on a chrono is a fail. Not the 321 but I have a 3861 moonwatch, looks amazing, time is easily legible, and I use the chrono all the time at a moment's notice.

I would probably pick the Daytona in this Battle of Watches. Whichever feels most comfortable on wrist (and indeed I think the 116500LN is better suited for my smaller wrist).

The black Daytona is a perfect watch. The wearability of the black Sub and the specialness of a Daytona.

I chose the 321. I think partially because I already have a Daytona but not a ceramic one. If you were comparing the white dial, I would choose the Daytona by a hair. This assumes that watches are bought at msrp. If I were going grey and choosing between the two, Ed White easily. Final thought is that I do enjoy acquiring things that are rarer and subtly different than mainstream watches. That fact that the Ed White flies under the radar checks a lot of boxes for me.

I have both, as part of a rotation I’d go 321 and a part of a small collection or one watch collection the Daytona.

Daytona does feel and I do believe is more robust. Particularly the wr and bracelet. The 321 bracelet does feel more flimsy and I did wreck one of the links in the sizing process. (Omega did give give me a free link though when I walked in to buy a replacement, Rolex would never do that).

The Daytona sits better on the wrist as well. Lower profile but overall heavier the 321 sits a tad tall. Daytona slides under the cuff much better.

The 321 is however much easier to read, you can see the amazing movement and for me at least feels far more special.

A love both watches though and don’t want to part with either as a chrono collector.

Not a fair comparison IMO. If you check out in the Omega section there are a few threads by myself, Traveller and others that have a lot of detail on why the EW321 is incredible. Collectibility, heritage, finishing and uniqueness aside (which all favor the 321), I’ve compared mine against a friends black ceramic Daytona, and another friends Patek 5070 and to me it’s just so hard to compete with the 321.

Exactly right, it’s not fauxtina, it’s the same color it was on the 105.003 references leaving the factory in 1965. Just so happens that color has some character :)

I have always been a Daytona fan and have never handled the 321 to be able to appreciate all the fine details. Availability is also a factor so I would get the one that becomes available first and see how it goes from there.

Judging just by picture, Daytona gets my vote for the bling factor!
