Would you Lexus or BMW?

I recently purchased a little mountain house and have been going back and forth A LOT. It’s impossible not to be covered in dirt at all times coming and going. My off road truck has been dialed in for such escapades but I’m feeling like I want a city car that stays clean, is fast-ish and easy on maintenance (prob rules out BMW). Def want a coupe and would love a convertible but not an option with Lexus (I think). Was looking at a Lexus RC F or possibly m440i. Any thoughts or input from the car contingency? Looking to keep $ around $50k, low miles and as new as my budget allows for - ideally 2020 or newer

IF you plan to keep the vehicle past the factory or CPO warranty period, Lexus is the way to go IMO.

My M2 is a lot of fun. Most Lexus are a bit boring but have very few issues. Just traded in a gx460 for a macan s. With 30k miles now on the beemer and we only buy gas, oil and tires. The only Lexus close to it is almost twice as much, the lc 500 but beautiful.
BMW for fun

If it's a coupe you want then you gotta go BMW, are the masters of the coupe. The M44i you mentioned, I've always believed is a future classic.

I know what you are dealing with and we ended up going MacanS. When it come to road trips comfort on freeway and drirt roads I'd go with BMW of the two.

Well said. I'm a long-time BMW fan, but I do recognize the sometimes expensive maintenance costs out of warranty, and see that appeal of the Toyota... er, Lexus.

But if you enjoy driving and want something fun, then it needs to be Bavarian.

For your budget and needs, Lexus. BMWs are a great drive but I’d only get one when new with a lease/warranty. With your budget, you’re going to be pushing the end or middle of the warranty period and you will run into problems. A 4 series might be close to your budget but not sure.

If a lease is an option, go BMW. As someone mentioned, the M4 convertible is sweet.

I mashed the pedal of the GX460 on a test drive and nothing happened. The X5, for what it is, is an awesome truck fast enough for 99% of the people who own one.
Maintenance cost? Pssh, I'm on a Rolex forum, this ain't the place for rational purchases either.

Only problem is finding one! There are no leases on them bc no one has one.

Lexus, though i'd ALSO suggest a Subaru if you really have lots of hardpack / dirt and uneven surfaces... and want durability too. Subaru. Lived in a mountaintop home with 1/2-mile hardpack driveway that had 700 feet of overall elevation from bottom to top... Subaru.

See if you can hire someone at the leasehackr forum to find one for you, I did that years ago for a m550. They have threads there and at bimmerfest that can help you out.

Lexus dealers have LC 500s in stock, maybe they will lease. I’d take a lc500 over an m4 all day long.

Lexus

When you hear people say, “xxxxx” is a great car, just don’t own one without a warranty.”, that’s a sign, a bad sign !

Wait til you drive one! That would be my #1 choice. Santa is getting me a white convertible with red interior for Christmas, so I’m biased.

Man. I wish you hadn’t mentioned that car. And it comes in convertible. Damnit.

I have an RC300 and love it. it's got great acceleration and is a comfortable drive. i only put in gas every couple of weeks. I never have service issues with it and I've had it for 2+ years. We've had only Lexus since 1990, including all of the 400 series, an LC430 (Which I had for 15 years and only had regular service done on it) an IS250C (because they had stopped making droptops) an ES350, an ES250 (a slimmed down version of the 350) and the RC300. Our next one will likely be an RX350 (or whatever the next model is).

BMW you buy with your heart. Lexus you buy with your brain. I've heard good things about the Acura TLX with the 355-HP 3.0L TURBO V6 (Type S), great performance and handling along with Honda/Acura (near Lexus) quality.
