What a sad day for Rolex
Today is a sad day for Rolex.
It's founder, Hans Wilsdorf, died on this very day (July 06) in 1960. We should all have a drink in his memory.

I don't see it as sad. He would have been ancient and frail by this time if he had kept living!
Life is finite for a reason. |

I think he might be a little ticked off by the current direction of the brand. Went from being sturdy tools that had jobs and being built to handle those rigors to this elite luxury item status symbol. Guys got issued these watches for service and immediately beat them to death and now they pay 3 times the retail to put them into a safe.

RIP Hans. You missed the late 60's, drug and disco-filled 70's, total weirdness of the 80's, internet dial-up of the 90's and...well...all the crap that has happened since we turned the calendar to the 2000's and up. Oh, and by the way Hans....your watch is now worth way more than you thought it ever would be....thanks to a disease.
RIP Hans. You missed a ton of stuff that, well, you are probably glad you did. |

Sad? Hardly. What a legacy! To have thousands of enthusiasts discussing his life’s work daily on this and other forums?
