Seadweller 43 is a mixed bag

I recently picked one up and the diameter is perfect for my tastes. the lug to lug and 43mm size is perfect.

Why I am debating letting it go is because of its thickness. This would have been perfect for those who prefer >40mm watches but it is such a thick slab. Why must they ruin the look just to stay it can reach 4000 ft under?

Anyone have similar sentiments wearing the SD43?

For me it's the opposite.
But, I think it all comes down to the person wearing it and if it works for them or not.

The sides on the SD43 are not super think like the 41-43mm Tudors-- so to me, my SD43 wears noticeably thinner than those Tudors, which wear well for me also-- It's all about the wearers wrist shape and how it mates up with the case back. For me the case back tucks nicely in the flat part of my wrist, so while I too would take the SD43 thiner, it is in no way a deal breaker. It wears very much like a 42mm Exp II. PLUS: You get a much more interesting watch to a Sub, IMHO, you just gotta be okay with the fit.

Funny you mention this

I just was talking to another member here on TRF and he also compared it to the EXPII. I was asking because I’m also considering a SD43 and him and I both own a EXPII, PM SkyD, etc

I was asking what does it compare to? He mentioned EXPII

May just have to get a SD43 and find out. Caseback wise I’ve owned/own a 116600 and 16600. Can’t be that different right? Or can it..

I’ve had differing opinions from 2 members here but both said the SD43 is a great watch

I recently sold my SD43 because I couldn’t get a comfortable fit despite several strap changes.

That was the only reason though. I loved everything else about the watch (aesthetics wise especially) It was such a pity. Everything else about it was sharp and had this menacing vibe.

You need a flat wrist to enjoy a SD43 fully.

Works perfectly as my weekend jeans/shorts and t-shirt watch.

My wrist is as flat as it gets. The extruding caseback makes the case not hug the wrist fully and no flat wrist would help that, unless you wear the watch ridiculously tight, which would defeat the purpose of enjoying a watch.

I have a flat wrist. I bought a SD43 3 years ago from the AD. I loved everything about the watch. The red text, the more aggressive bezel, the proportions.

But after 3 years I sold it and moved into the 41mm Cermit. No regrets. Its just so much more comfortable than the SD43

I think it looks perfect, and the proportion is much better than the submariner. the sd43 is my favorite daily wearer out of my collection.

Criticizing a true deep dive watch because of thickness?

You might enjoy a bit of vintage action.
The Sea-Dweller was a thinner package in the 5 digit era.
It wasn't until the 6 digit era that it got fat for no reason

Furthermore, why would you buy it if that’s how you feel.

Nope, not my opinion at all. I wear a couple different 44mm watches often and when I went back to my 40mm subs, they felt kinda small. The SD43 was a great happy medium for me. I love the heft. I did try the Deep Sea first and I quickly realized it was way too thick for me.

Deep sea is unwearable for me I’m a big guy with large wrists and it looks awkwardly large in my opinion. However I have a friend who’s bigger than me and it looks great on him.

Sd43 is absolutely perfect.

15mm thickness is totally fine to me for an extreme diver, it's actually less than most in that category (Planet Ocean, Seawolf etc).

The SD43 is my favourite Rolex diver. I find it perfect.

I disagree. I love my SD43, its size works for me, both diameter and thickness

the middle case thickness is a lot smaller, just the protruding case back making the watch wears higher on the wrist.

The way you wear it make a huge difference.
The thickness of the case is centered in the case back. If you wear it snug and above wrist bone, the case back sinks in your wrist and the watch starts to wear and feel as if it’s a normal sub.
