There’s a time and a place for compassion, Dan. Of course it’s a tragedy that this woman died, but having lost a loved one to a drunk driver, I’m not going to sugarcoat how callous of a decision it was for her to take alcohol or drugs and then take the wheel.

Better off dead than behind bars I suppose. Oops scratch that, that would have never happened. Hollywood elite.

Anne Heche is 'brain dead' but on life support for organ donation

As sage as this comment is being taken here it is simply untrue. The value is as a negative example. What not to do. How not to live your life. How not to handle your mental illness and drug addiction so that your life isn't used to take the lives of others.

It's a miracle she didn't kill anyone.

Let's see someone compassion their way out of a house fire after being hit by a 4000lb projectile at 90mph. She deserves nothing and most certainly not compassion.

The negative example is not effective on the irrational mind. People with drug and alcohol addictions will not be swayed by cursing the dead. It may make the living feel better to vent, but the the vitriol falls on deaf ears as wasted effort.

Not all people who drink and snort Coke have an irrational mind. Many are successful stock brokers

Maybe before driving they will think twice after recalling how awful it went down for Ms Heche.

I think this was a thread about Anne Heche not about airing out your political viewpoints.

Does every thread have to get dragged into political talking points?

What’s Political about a man causing an accident under the influence? Certainly relatable to Heche and what she did.

Hers was a name I heard a lot, but don't remember seeing her in too many things.
Sad story all the way around.

I think much of the frustration here is on the perceived double standard. If this were anybody but a celebrity there would be a collective resounding “good riddance”. This type of thing is happening all over North America (I’m Canadian) yet these events only typically garner local headlines. If this happened only because of drugs and/or alcohol, my thoughts are with the other victims, as they are truly innocent. If she was psychologically distressed and known to be that way, others failed her.
I can’t imagine losing my home for no other reason than being in the wrong place when an alcohol/drug-fueled event takes place.

The news is reporting that drugs, specifically cocaine and possibly fentanyl, were found in her system.

Agreed it’s a miracle no one else was killed. She destroyed the homes of innocent people. Can you imagine someone crashing into your house in the middle of the day at 100 mph?

Agreed. Plus, she’s a mom of relatively young kids.

It’s very hard to lose a parent at any age, especially when young. Speaking from experience, it’s even harder when a parent dies because of irresponsible choices.

It’s probably the main reason that this was news, but yes it’s not related to the accident itself

Don’t know your age fella but this is relatively new. If you’d ask me 10 yrs ago that things would be as they are now I would’ve said you’re crazy. Suck up the depression because things will get WORSE.

You’re a pretty regular contributor to the dynamic. And I hope that you are wrong.
