YM40 - Take or Leave?

Hi All,

I haven't posted in a little while - I hope all is well in these strange times.

My omega is showing signs of magnetization so I took it to my AD to be checked - whilst there I asked to look at the blue YM40 as I wanted to see how slim the case profile was as I believed it to be much slimmer than a sub.

Much to be surprise my SA discreetly stated that I could acquire this piece if I really wanted it...this shocked me as whilst I know its not a GMT or Daytona etc I believe it to be a popular and desirable piece.

This has left me with a decision to make - I only recently got another Rolex(SUB41Date) in May and wasnt expecting to get another this soon.

Do you think I should go for it or pass?

Appreciate the advice from this wise forum as always :)

RIP HM Queen Elizabeth II

If you really want it to wear and enjoy wearing it, plus you can afford to buy it, if not leave it for someone else to buy to wear and enjoy.

Pretty simple, if you like it (well, really, you should absolutely love any watch you are paying over 10k for) and have the financial means, then who are we to stop you

I love mine but don't buy another Rolex just to buy it.

i wouldn't if i had Sub; I'd pick one over the other (this one is gorgeous - I'd pick this and move the Sub.)

It is a beautiful piece that's often overlooked, but only get it if it's what you really want otherwise hold out for that right piece.

Yes I should have made it clear that I LOVE this model - I like how its both sporty and dressy with its polished case and precious-metaled bezel.

I’ve never owned or desired a Sub but had two Yachtmasters in the past. That blue dial is a beauty, I’d rather have it than the Sub but not both.

It was £9,800 before. Separate point for your Omega magnetisation - the little blue box demagnetisers available on Amazon for about £10 work.

It's only money (of course not mine) you said you love the watch, so in a few years will you even think about the extra 1,350? Or will you still be enjoying your watch?

Only you can decide. Good Luck

Thanks for that tip - I just took it as an opportunity to go into my AD to be honest haha.

the times to buy a watch because you'd be dumb to decline one are gone. if you like it buy it, if you're having second thoughts then walk away because you'll now lose money on it if you change your mind and flip it

I feel like what other people do is pretty irrelevant. You clearly don't want this watch that much or you would have bought it already, so I'll say no.

It's one of the most beautiful watches that Rolex makes, in my opinion. If you really love it and have the funds available, then go for it.

I think YM as a model is not very well liked, mostly because the color of the bezel makes it look smaller than it actually is. That said, this specific model is one of the few blue dial Rolex you can purchase. It's a tough call. Personally I would not because it isn't a small sum of money, and if you're not 100% on it I would not buy. In fact, for Rolex, I'm expected to discover refinement that I wouldn't expect in other brands. So if there's even one thing that isn't to my taste, I would back off. It's a different story if your intention is to buy and flip it right away, IF there is profit to be made.

Good advice. I really like mine, but go with what's right for you.

I wouldn’t say I’m having second thoughts, I’d say I’m pondering the choice and thinking the decision through, for me, spending £10,000 isn’t a split second decision, it’s one to be thought through, considered, and consulted on with wise folks like yourselves.
