Ive wanted a ss with white dial Daytona since I first learned about them in the mid 1990's. My wife bought me a panda for my 50th 2 years ago. I love everything about it but was pretty surprised at how small it wore on my wrist which is 7.5 inches. My GMT master II feels larger but they are both supposedly 40 or 41 mm(I forget which). It's a keeper though, and the smaller feel does make it more streamlined to my wrist. For some reason I just always thought it looked to be a much larger watch.

I believe a Daytona is one of those pieces that anybody can wear as long as they can size the bracelet for them.
It’s not just a watch, it’s a statement piece, a piece of jewelry. No matter how big or small a person might be, it will almost always look at home. Therefore, if you can get one, get it and don’t look back. |

it's the best steel sports model in the catalog.
feels and looks right at home on my 7 inch wrist you will find it small at first, because you are coming from watches that are big and chunky. notice the daytona is fairly thin... notice patek is thin. panerai is chunky. breitling is chunky notice a trend? buy the daytona and enjoy

I own a ceramic daytona and it gets the least amount of wrist time. Not because I like it the least... but because I have other pieces that are better "everyday" pieces in my opinion. The daytona is my most expensive watch and although I would refrain from saying that I keep it for special occasions, I only wear it occasionally (mostly for special occasions hahaha).
Size-wise it does wear small. I have a 6.75-in wrist and I think thats the sweet spot for a daytona. It starts looking a little small on bigger wrists. In the end if you have a good relationship with an AD tell them you are interested in the daytona, and would like to try one on before getting on a list. Let them know you are not sure about the size, so you want to figure out if it works for you. They get them regularly and while most (all) are spoken for already, you can always try on before the owner picks it up (which is what I did for my batman). If you like it, buy it. If not, no biggie; plenty of people dont have or want a ceramic daytona.

With all sincerity, if 15k is a concern, you are not ready for this.

I'm not a fan of chronographs in general (I find them to be a mostly useless complication). I had friends telling me over and over again about how important it was to have a chronograph in my collection and pushing me to get one.
Even though I've bought a few watches from our local AD/boutiques (DateJust, OP, SkyDweller, a couple of Tudors, and Oris), it's not enough to have enough of a relationship to be considered for a Daytona (and something about this whole concept just rubs me the wrong way, but that's another topic). So, I found a used Zenith Chronomaster Sport for $8K and bought it. I have no regrets about buying it and I guess that it has a place in my collection. All else being equal, I prefer it to the Daytona (I like the tri-color subdials, the fact that it has a date aperture, the high beat movement, and the display caseback) which will be heresy to some on this forum. Overall, I do like it, but, I'm glad that I didn't buy it at retail. To me, unless you LOVE the Daytona and it's one that YOU believe that you MUST HAVE in your collection, the only real benefit to getting one is that you can sell it for cash - which you specifically ruled out in your post. If it's not your grail and your ultimate watch, what other purpose would there be to spend $15K on it? Especially if that $15K will cause you some pain. Don't let others dictate your collection. Collect based on what moves YOU and what you love. |

This is super easy.
If you like it, can afford it and can get one then get one. You’re a grown up go for it , or not. It’s not my cup of tea but honestly who cares what I think lol |

For my part, I love my Daytona. Granted, I don’t use the watch as it’s intended but I find it extremely comfortable, stylish and well, it’s a Rolex. I’ve tried other chronographs and IMHO, they don’t measure up. Again IMHO

Why you don't want was well summarised in several post above. If you believe you could get one from your AD, go and ask for one. Buy it and enjoy it. Whether you wear it all the time is up to you. Yes it would seem like a waste to spend $15k on a watch and not wear it, but many collectors own watches they wear infrequently, and some watches are not worn, but are in the collection.

One can afford and be concerned about wearing a 15k watch. How many of us are around very wealthy people for whom a penny is a penny and risking 1k then 15k is out of the question... So this down-to-earth speech is good to read. I think you can overcome your apprehensions and have fun. You can always resell it if you feel like it

I don't think OP is concerned about payment of $15k, as in the price of purchase, but the risk of being robbed/hurt because he's wearing $15k, realistically $25 to $30k, on his wrist. I'm in that camp. It's not enough to stop me from wearing it altogether, but it is a security concern for sure even when it's fully insured.
