Platinum Sky Dweller?
Why doesn’t Rolex produce a platinum Sky Dweller? Given the robust demand for the SS model and the lack of a WG version currently seems strange they don’t offer it in platinum. If this watch actually existed and you had the budget and the opportunity to purchase one would you buy it?

no one knows why it's not offered but also just because there's huge demand for a skydweller in SS doesn't mean people will come flooding in for a platinum one. look at the platinum daytona, it always sold at a discount until last year. most people who can't get a steel skydweller aren't gonna just look at the $80k alternative

The SkyD was originally offered in WG with the other colored metals. It was discontinued once the SS variants were released. The WG didn't sell well.

Yeah, I think that once you get into >$60k territory, you open up a world of haute horlogerie options that make Rolex seem a bit less appealing by comparison.

I didn't realize that they stopped making WG Sky-Ds. I guess they could introduce a platinum version now that they've shown they can make the platinum Day-Date with fluted bezel.
Knowing how heavy a platinum Daytona is, I can imagine that a 42mm Sky-D would be really heavy! I also wonder if they could now sell them at platinum price points. My recollection is that the Sky-D came out in PM and sold disappointingly, so they added SS model, presumably to help amortize the Sky-D development. Now to go to the opposite extreme, price-wise, might be a bridge too far. Or maybe not? What do I know?

It’ll be heavy, but I think it would also make the watch have better balance, so if you can take the weight it’ll be non issue.
If they were to offer it with glacier blue bezel, it may sell pretty well and possibly take some sales from the daydate line. |

Agreed, couldn't even imagine. The platona is 282g and already too heavy, plat skyd would easily be another 40g or so.

Perhaps there's an issue with the friction of platinum-on-platinum with a "working" bezel?
More than a platinum version, I think that the SkyD would be a good candidate for a President bracelet. |

They just came out with there first fluted platinum bezel this year, so my guess is, a platinum Sky Dweller might be next years release.

Exactly! Personally I wouldn’t be afraid of the weight but I usually wear a watch with a large presence on the wrist so maybe I’m an outlier Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

When I go from PM to SS as most full PM wearers I'm like wth is this Of course I love my SS collection, wouldnt have bought otherwise, but I love the feel of pure heft on the wrist. Only takes a minute or 2 to get used to. Heft on the wrist is different than pain on the wrist. Such as SD43 for example. Weight was more than fine but that case back is whole other story. I would be first on the so called list for a Platinum Sky-D and would rock it as a daily. I mean my 935 is basically my daily so why not. Just imagine a Platinum SkyD with "oyster" bracelet and ice blue dial Yeah sign me up. Granted I might have to let one go to do so but not my 935. Hell of a duo

PP would probably be a annual calendar well so is the Sky-D. Granted missing the day but is also a GMT So I get it but a Platinum SkyD would be much more than just a 3 hander in PM
