And if it was made in a 46, the herd would jump all over it because bigger is not only better, it's "sportier."

DJ2's limited production and sales proved otherwise.

Now that I have a second child, I need a second watch! The plan going forward is to alternate between the two watches every other day.

Initially I was considering the Explorer I as a compliment to the Sub, but I have since come around on the Datejust. I'm pretty settled on the silver dial and Jubilee bracelet, but I'm still deciding between:

- fluted vs smooth bezel, and
- 36 vs 41 case size

I tried on both sizes at an AD and while the 41 seemed more familiar coming from the Sub, I haven't ruled out the 36. I think either could work.

Also, while I love the look of the fluted bezel in photos, I'm a bit concerned about how flashy it will look in practice, especially since this is a watch I will be wearing just about every day, and I don't work in a formal business environment.

Unfortunately, I didn't think to take any pictures while at the AD, but I have included some pics of cutouts on my wrist as well as the 114060. For reference, my wrists are just about 7" in circumference.

Any thoughts/opinions welcome!!
I have exactly an 114060 which I love and a DJ 41 fluted with jubilee and like it very much as well, I am 6'3 so the 36 wears way too small. You can also consider OP 39 before pulling the trigger, good luck.

DJ41 wears like a smaller watch than the Submariner. I’ve got both, along with DJ36, which I never wear anymore. I have an average size wrist. I’d go 41 without reservation.

From the pictures provided, it looks like you have quite a flat wrist. Circumference isn't the important number here.

Its the relative width the watch head will be sitting on, shape, and whether or not you wear it above, or below, the wrist

Your Sub looks perfectly sized for your wrist. I suspect you'll find 36 mm too small

I have had both sizes.
Both are beautiful watches.
i settled on the 36mm after some back and forth
it just fits better undershirt cuffs and frankly it doesn't flop around my wrist as much

Many thanks for all the comments! I really appreciate the informed feedback. After some more consideration I'm feeling like a smooth bezel 41 is the way to go for this one. Will probably sit on the decision for a few more days, but all roads keep leading back to that combo. I will make sure to post when it's incoming!

Consider the fluted bezel, the watch looks totally different vs. the plain bezel.

Personal preference cannot have anything to do with it?
Instead, I must be part of a herd looking to stand out?
Amazing what some will say without thinking first.

Sizing Opinions Wanted: Datejust 36 vs 41

Lmao. When is a sub 40mm Watch considered too big and bliny. Sometimes I have no idea who writes this stuff. You like 36mm. Think it’s better proportions and this and that. But to say 40 is oversized as I read it here a lot is crazy. We were not all created with sub 7 inch wrist. I would say oversized really starts at 45-47mm and larger imo. I have seen the 44mm deep sea and the sd43 look just fine on the wrist of those who wear it. 40mm is the new standard of men’s sizes imo. And 36mm is quickly becoming that for woman even though my wife has a 31mm.

I see this thread devolved into the typical nonsense.

Here is the one I wear daily. It’s 36mm and my wrist is 7 inches. It’s perfect with everything from a suit to shorts and a t-shirt. Also, the new models wear larger than the older ones due to larger lugs.

I have both a GMT and an Explorer II that are each 40mm. For the DJ I personally prefer the 36mm.

Perfect size on you and a good example of a watch that doesn't need to span the entire breadth of your wrist. This is how watches should fit and why the 36mm did just fine 60 years on its own.

An update: after much deliberation, I ended up going with the 41/silver/smooth/jubilee combo. Couldn't be happier!

Just simply try on both sizes. Whichever one looks best to YOU is the one.

I have owned 36mm, Subs/gmts and DD40.
I say don’t go 36, you’ll regret it. Specially with your wrist and considering photos of wrists always show watch to appear bigger than actually is. This is coming from someone with a rather small 6.5” wrist who just got a Daytona and is having a hard time as feels too small at 38.5mm.

This. And fluted. The 41 is also 39.5mm. So it’s a sub 40mm watch.

Just saw your post. Congratulations! Looks great

Sizing Opinions Wanted: Datejust 36 vs 41

I started with a Submariner 114060 and then added a DJ41, silver dial, fluted bezel on a jubilee bracelet. I basically wanted something that was the exact opposite of the Submariner.

I know from experience that a DJ41 wears a lot smaller on the wrist than the Submariner. It’s lighter, thinner, and the lug-to-lug distance is smaller. Also, compared to my 42mm Seamaster, my DJ41 feels quite diminutive. If I got a 36mm, I would have really regretted it.

Right now, my DJ41 gets more wrist time than any watch I have. I love it.
