Should I not buy? What would you do?
So like everyone knows the prices in Europe are going up on November 1st by about 6%.
My AD messed up the list and I got a call 2 weeks ago for a watch but it was the wrong dial color. So they apologised and I was promised the next that comes in is mine. I had the email to prove what I ordered. Now they did receive what I was waiting for in that shipment but they allocated it to someone who was on the list after me, due to their mistake. Now I went over there and asked if, due to their mistake, for not allocating me the watch when it was my turn and skipping me, they will sell it to me at the price prior to the price bump. I got a flat no, if I don't like the price I don't need to buy. I get no compensation for their screw-up. And their screw-up will cost me an extra 1k. So should I just not buy out of sheer principle ? Cause they wouldn't even meet me halfway ? Or compensate me in any way? Yes it's a sellers market and yes it's hard to get. But still. Admitting a mistake and them making the client pay for it ? What would u guys do ? Swallow the pill and pay ? Or give up and never buy there again? |

Mistakes happen. Buy the watch but tell them you’re not thrilled about having to fork up the extra cash. Maybe down they’ll throw in a nice accessory or bump you up the priority list for another hot watch

There is no issue as far as I'm concerned.
You expressed interest in a product with a waiting list, when it's your turn on the imaginary waiting-list you pay the retail price at the time it's offered to you. Unless you made a contract with your AD that you're paying the current MSRP, there's really nothing there. Don't ask for compensation because of their "mistake" - because behind the scenes there probably wasn't a mistake made, they likely chose to allocate it to someone with a higher internal status. You could ask for an accessory or a next allocation. |

The other possibility is that they already have it and are holding it until the increase. But here’s the thing: it’s not like you will ever get it cheaper elsewhere. If you’re annoyed, call other ADs and see if one of them has it if you’d rather youd not get the extra $ on principle.

If you want the watch buy it.
What reference? At the end of the day 6% shouldn't make a difference, but I understand the frustration. Just remember there really are no lists and no guarantees |

How do you know they sold the watch you wanted to someone else?

My SA is pretty honest and open with me. I was told there was a screw up on their part and they showed me the watch that was actually supposed to be mine. But it was already paid for and the person just needed to come pock it up. So yeah the SA told me they screwed up. So I know that watch was supposed to.be mine because I was told so. Honestly I dunno if I'd rather not have known that my watch was allocated to someone else. They couldve just lied to me and said the other person was in front of me regardless. And then I would be like "ok, fine". But in this case I was told the person who got the watch was behind me and they received it because I was put on the different list by mistake. So yeah, they're honest about the screw up but won't own up to it. A lie wouldve set em free... |

How much do you want the watch?
If their demand is high, they probably don't have any strong financial incentive to meet your requested terms. (If it was a product that sits in a display case for weeks or months without selling, it would likely be a different story.) |

But yeah it's frustrating to spend another 1k on something that should've been mine while someone else who should've paid that 1k more is getting my 1k. My AD is making the same money, just the person who got my slot is making 1k on my back and gets a watch I want ahead of me. |

It sounds more to me like the watch was sold to someone higher up the food chain. If they were honest, that’s what they’d tell you. What reference are we talking about here? |

You call it a mistake, I call it a choice on their part. The truth is you probably want the watch more than they need you as a customer with todays climate of never-ending demand. It sucks you have to pay more. Rather than rub them the wrong way and loose preference, I would buy it if I liked it and use their "mistake" as angle to gain favour towards the next piece I desire.

OP, you know you have five choices: 1. Start a "relationship" with another AD (big time drag unless you are whale). 2. Make an issue out of it and keep pressing (may ruin the relationship and not work anyways). 3. Forget this reference. 4. Buy on secondary market. 5. Pay the increased price from your AD. I would give it one more re-think and go with my gut. The increased price is not the issue here for me. If it was a mistake I would swallow the increased price. Question is whether I believe they are being honest with me. That does make a difference to me.

To those who say it's not a mistake.
I really do believe it was a mistake, if not why would they call me get me to come to the store and present me with something I didn't order? I was put on the wrong list. That's a given. I highly doubt they would purposely bring me to the store to rub my nose in the fact I'm not getting a watch and am bumped down. So yeah, |

They gave my turn which cost 1k less to someone else. And I have to pay 1k more. I know they're not making more money but the fact that their screw-up is costing me more money is unjust. Doesn't matter of its 1k 10k or 5 bucks. It's the fact that they admit wrongdoing but do nothing to correct it. |

If I had a good relationship with them prior then I would let them know I’m “disappointed” in how they handled, but would still buy and continue to work with them.
If they’re nothing more than someone that can get you a watch at retail, I’d start to look for someone else. It could be said that in this scenario neither side really respects the other so why continue? Take your $ elsewhere and don’t even tell them you’re moving on. Life’s too short to hold grudges. If you really want it, buy it. Hell of a lot cheaper than gray market even with the price increase.

As stated before. Its a watch I'd like to have. Not a must have. So that's why I started this thread. I can easily give up on a dssd.and not lose sleep over it. Next year mid recession dssd will be in each and every display just for pickup as soon as you walk in. Mark my words. So yes I can wait and just pick it up from a different AD. But even at another AD it's the same price. So yeah what do I gain by being stubborn ? Lol 😆 But shouldn't a man have principles, and stand by them no matter what ? |

I do understand your frustration but these lists are rather arbitrary and although they told you that you were higher priority, it's not a binding contract. If you intend to buy the watch, I would just buy from them

Are you in Montreal or Europe?
Do we know the European increase is happening in Canada as well? |

If you sour on it, it might be worth looking to get it elsewhere so you don't have a negative memory attached to it. If you sweeten, then 6% isn't too bad in the grand scheme of things, especially if you love the watch. |

OP, don't cut your nose off to spite your face. Just move on and don't lose sleep over it. I agree, the SA shouldn't have told you of their mistake, because now it's driving you crazy. I would just either go gray, or wait on the new list. There are no other options here. Unfortunately, these AD's have everyone by the balls.

What is an extra grand in these days? It is already practically worthless. So, just buy it.
