I don't get the hype around Peter Lugers. I have been 4 times. Each of those was with a client who told me "You have not had a steak until you eat at Lugers..." So each time I went.
Yes, the food was good, atmosphere was good, and I generally have no problems with it but the place seems just over hyped. While everything was good nothing was exceptional. |

Definitely overhyped.
The steaks are good but you can get a good steak at a hundred other places in Manhattan. There is only so much anyone can do with a simple piece of beef. No matter how much they explain their process, it's beef. The more annoying part is how half the crowd are tourists wearing t shirts. I ended up at Hawksmore twice in the last month. Another solid if overhyped place. Sent from my SM-F936U1 using Tapatalk

I think for OP this was more of a “bucket list” activity and that OP doesn’t actually expect the meal itself to be greatest of all time

Had dinner at Peter Luger’s last night. Much of what’s been said above I would agree with.
Some thoughts: Lots of tourists and people with expense accounts. Very casual place, as in t-shirts and jeans for many of the men. No snark, just an observation. Although they don’t take credit cards they do take debit cards. Arrived early for a drink at the bar got called for my table about 4 minutes after my actual reservation time. That’s good. Place was packed, and I mean jammed. They’re making lots of $ here. So how was it? We had the steak for two (Porterhouse) and it really was excellent. Nice crust and perfect temperature. I can’t say it was the best I’ve ever had but it’s as good as any I’ve had. My server said they would do about 850 dinners that night. That’s an incredible number. They know what they’re doing. And, finally, the requisite wrist shot from the lounge at our hotel after dinner: Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

Sure I can get a great steak in at least 30 restaurants in manhattan alone.
Can’t say I could get a better steak but I have had many awful steaks with absurd prices. Lugers is a great steak with PERFECTLY matched side dishes. IMHO The price is very reasonable for the experience. Seems like some folks are creating a fictional goal on what a steak should be? Some other folks are expressing sour grapes because something rubbed them wrong? It’s nyc, your going to see tourists. Grabbing a steak at Lugers for some is not such a special occasion, it’s down the block… do folks really care if I wear a tshirt? Is the Tshirts impacting the flavor of their steak? I would never say it is the best steak, that would be the same as saying that you married the best human being in the world. You didn’t. But that partner works perfectly for you. Well done. Pun intended :)

Peter Luger NYC
I thought Luger’s was on the east side of the Brooklyn Bridge? Anyway in NYC, this is my favorite: https://www.markjosephsteakhouse.com Was there for ePrix in July and was great again. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk Pro

Nyc consists of 5 boroughs. Now if you said we are going to “the city” that would mean manhattan.
You’re talking to a kid from old brooklyn. Correction, an old kid from old brooklyn.
