"Climbing mountains will teach you patience, persistence and gratitude. Mountain climbing can be physically and mentally exhausting. But when you reach the top, any roadblocks or struggles you may have had along the way fade and make room for a deep sense of accomplishment." I buy them for static art, and have now one WG Daytona, that I've owned for years.....to have been on my wrist but once, the day it arrived. Then right back in its box, and into the safe, (not to worry Padi, we all know you're not a fan of the current references). WG, worn under a cotton sleeve would give bases for RSC to note, scratches present upon receipt, if sent in for service.... |

18ct gold is softer than 904 steel.
That's just fact. Knock 904 steel against a door jam and you might get away with it. Knock 18ct gold and you won't. In my experience there's very much the subconscious element of increased awareness wearing a solid gold watch. I can also confirm that polished gold centre links will develop significantly more hairiness (and do so more quickly) from contact with any form of clothing than polished steel centre links will.

One element of durability not mentioned (and probably not occurring frequently enough to bother with): If we're talking about a Daytona, the inner parts of the pushers are also PM, and there have been a few reports here of them snapping off. Never seen a report of that happening with stainless.

Totally agree! The WG color is far different than SS. Absolutely love the WG!

I see a huge difference, but a different difference than most steel vs WG. That particular WG alloy looks lighter and brighter, almost like aluminum or well-cleaned sterling. Less of the warmth, but a really interesting shade.

From what I've read, it's composed of gold (>75%), palladium (>20%), and small quantities of platinum and rhodium which give it the lighter hue you're referring to.

As an aside, I do think that proprietary gold formulations will be one of the next trend in differentiating watches from the competition. Rolex has been doing this with "Everose" for some time. Omega has its Canopus WG and Sedna RG alloys (as well as "Moonshine" and "Bronze" golds). Lange has "honey gold" (which seems to be a YG variant). Obviously there have always been variations when it comes to gold alloys and the resulting color, but it seems more brands are, and will be, taking advantage of that for marketing purposes. |

First off, look for guys' opinions who own a gold piece and have experience using one as a daily.
Guys that know, know. About the Daytona, though, I will say this. The bezel will definitely show wear (not that that's a bad thing lol) and you'll need to know beforehand if you're the type of wearer that's okay with that. |

WG Daytona can ABSOLUTELY be a daily! A few minor scratches are life, don't worry just enjoy wearing a gold Rolex! I wore the 116519 WG Daytona above for about 14 years, then sold it off (ROOKIE MOVE) to pay for the new 116500 above. My biggest horology mistake EVER. They wear (only you will feel it) WAY WAY different!!! The SS Daytona is beautiful, but that WG is magnificent. But it's a personal relationship watch thing only the wearer will get. Every time I wear the SS watch above, which isn't that often, I miss my 116519 above. It was a cut above, and a big regret of mine. Eventually, when the time it right, I'll fix my screw up. You haven't done it yet, so as long as you can afford the watch easily, buy the WG and never look back.
