What is the point of this post? I don't understand what you are saying. My AD has been putting a lot of professional models on display; they are called Exhibition Models.

I hope OP meant these are on display for sale and NOT display only model.

The AD closest to me had actual working watches on display but not for sale. So OP statement could really go either way.

My AD has had sports watches on display for forever.. you can’t buy anything though. Daytona’s, GMT’s everything. No change in my opinion

Display for sale or for exhibition only, you need to be clear.

The SA at AD are going through the waiting lists much faster than a year ago and they need to call much more people before they sell them a Datejust or a Sub.

Eventually they will run out of the names to call as 99% of those on the lists are flippers who are vanishing as we speak now that they have realized there are no more grey dealers next door who will pay them $18K for a Pepsi ..

Time for you to wake up as well and get out of the Underground .. Try offering a BLRO to a grey dealer and tell me how that goes .. Out of 10, half will ignore, 3 will low ball you and 2 will only accept the consignment .. Not much of a flipping potential anymore ..

The only way to know for sure is to whip out your credit card and ask to buy it.

So did you?

as of a week ago they were going for around $17k whole sale in dealer groups according to the thread going in another section here. retail is 11.5k with tax, that's still a 50% flip for doing nothing. if you remember back in 2019 they were like 13k and still impossible to get from ADs, granted retail was a bit less. until these watches start going for retail+tax there's still gonna be fake waitlists

No surprise...I recently got "the call" for a BLRO that I would have had ZERO chance to get a year or two ago. I am a very good customer in most ways, but I don't really fit the massive spender profile that was needed 12-24 months ago to get access. Things are normalizing and once this bear market ends its run sometime during the middle of next year (IMO), things will even be more normal.

That's how it will happen. Though I think at first ADs will be very reluctant to put out product for just anyone to "walk in" and buy. It will be a matter of cash flow in the new year as there is probably some value in keeping a watch in the vault for awhile and see if a known customer with history (any history) makes an inquiry. That's exactly what happened with my latest acquisition. It was not out for general sale but it was available to me, and I'm certainly no whale in terms of spend. Two previous Rolexes and a little bit of jewelry for the Mrs.

Why would a EXP 2 be in the case when a diamond or ladies watch is sitting in the vault?

IMO we are still a long way away from seeing any SS models in display cases, if at all. Diamond and PM, ladies pieces will arrive first, then DJ, DD, TT. You'll be pushed to buy one of these to get a sub, etc... It will be the reverse of what we have seen in the last 2-3 years with watches disappearing from the cases ..

The problem is not "flippers" largely a notion of the internet, but the modern Rolex buyer who is now a "collector" and seeks to own every configuration of every sports SS model Rolex makes. It wasn't long ago people who loved the brand bought one watch for life and were happy. Now every avid new customer aspires to own at least ten watches. We have numerous threads about how many is enough, etc. No way Rolex or any other watch company can satisfy that much concentrated demand.

How do you explain that the grey market has an estimated 2 million new in the box rolex watches in inventory?
That's about 2 years worth of production.
I'd say 2 years worth of production being sat on by speculators is a problem for supply to people who just want to wear a nice watch.

Just came from Dubai and the duty free Rolex had a SubD and Deep Sea on display for sale, I asked them how long they have been on display and he said two days for the SubD and one week for the Deap Sea. He also said he sold an Exp. Polar earlier during the day which was on display sametime as the SubD, roughly two days.

That AD, along with nearly all AD's in the Middle East sell above MSRP. What did the watches actually cost?

No doubt the existing watches are still trying to be sold for 17k but what the secondary market is going to offer a flipper for their watch is far far less then that.

The secondary market has a big glut of watches they still need to sell. Not saying they will sell them cheap but they are definitely not buying from people for nearly as much as they used to be.

Now, if buyers would stop paying these prices then we would see a big decline in price. People blame flippers but the people who pay over MSRP are really who keep these high prices going. I mean I totally get it so not criticizing people who want what they want. The AD games get annoying.

Fantasy. Speculation. See "William Goldman" in the dictionary.
