Dynamic pricing?

If the high end watch market continues like it has (large spread between MSRP and market price) when will we see "dynamic pricing" a la the airlines, hotels and ticketmaster show up on retail watches?

It would suck but it could eliminate waitlists and AD issues as every watch sold would be sold at current market conditions. And with no real spread between MSRP and the actual market the flippers and grey market would mostly disappear.

So who's up for being able to walk into an AD and buy a Sub or Daytona for true market price whenever you want? The price might be really high, but you can have it today instead of 2 years from know. Or who knows...maybe no one is buying no date subs that week and prices are down...could save some money.

Isn't that exactly what Rolex is trying to achieve now through CPO? And if used doesn't tickle your fancy, grey market has new examples too.

Dynamic pricing works well for use it or lose items (flights / hotels / concerts / etc) and staples (cars / homes). For straight luxury goods, I don’t think it would work well.

Based on my independent assessment as a finance guy. But your points are taken.

My two cents is Rolex is aware of “Flex Culture” which is very very fickle and highly levered to the same type of people that may be crypto boys, etc. So to that end, they are being careful to not raise prices to secondary market levels. With the flex culture group, mechanical watch market can turn on a dime. Patek, AP, and Rolex are probably the most impacted by flex culture.

i think so too - the worst thing for a luxury brand is to be forced to lower their prices
