Sounds like you are buying to flip them.

You should absolutely flip these two models.

That way someone who really wants them can enjoy them at a substantial discount when you sell them for a loss.

i think it would be cheaper to buy a daytona on the grey market today. i figure you lose at least 10k on both if you try to flip them after

If I remember the secondary prices correctly, it’s an instant loss. It’s either a huge loss or you probably can’t find anyone to buy it. Buy only if you like it and wear it with joy.

It doesn't even sound like you like the Day Date to be honest.. I'd pass so someone who actually likes it and wants one can have one for the holidays.

Neither of any interest to me, not a fan of diamond dials.

And…I buy to hold.

The best thing you can pass to your kids, are great morals and personal values.

Rolex makes maybe 4-5 models right now i would consider either recession proof or an “investment” if you think of watches like that.

Stainless Daytona
Green JM Daytona
Anything in meteorite
The new fluted DD in platinum (for now)
Rainbow Daytona

That’s it. Everything else is could drop to MSRP. I wouldn’t buy anything in PM if i was buying watches as investments. I would wait until they are under retail which they likely will be soon. Meteorite is fairly limited, they just don’t kick out that many, same with the JM Daytona. Remember people selling OPs for 3-4x retail? What happened, they tanked. The BLRO was in the high 20s now you can get one for 18-19.

Rolex has always been a brand that’s good for value retention. If you bought something for 8k you were probably going to get close enough to 8k if you decided to sell it. The 3-4x retail thing is not normal, and it’s not sustainable outside of a few watches. People hunting for investments are better served putting money into a real investment. Not one managed by people passing watches back and fourth or “watch dealers” that bought one watch and flipped it and now feel like they have a business.

Buy both. Mortgage home if needed. You won’t get a chance like this again.
