I took an Omega PCL to a local jeweler and he had it brushed literally in 2 minutes, looked perfect. He was so quick he didn’t even charge me for it. I’m all for DIY, but sometimes Pros are the answer, or you may take some lumps.

I remove all scratches with 3 grades of Scotch Brite.

Burgundy = Coarse
Green = Medium
White = Fine

Easy.

Previous thread that discusses this topic and includes some pics.

BLUF: Suggest not trying yourself. Find a good jeweler / AD who will do it for you. When sending your watch for service at RSC, just send the watch sans bracelet, otherwise it will come back polished.

It’s a very easy DIY, you don’t need to pay a few hundred for a 10 minute job

Switch out to a Glidelock bracelet and keep the original PCL bracelet.

Use the correct pads, practice a few times on a piece of polished SS from a local metal shop.

This forum was once all about doing mods and do-it-yourself projects like this. This particular project would have been on the easy scale. Those were the days a owner wore their watch and feared nothing. Now, the watch is wearing their owners.

I'm not an enemy of PCLs on the other hand I can live without them. As far as changing them to brushed finish I'd leave it to a pro. There are shops that do it.

Well I do it quite regularly on all my SS Rolex(s)' bracelets.

What are you afraid of, for Christ's sake?

I may be in the minority here, but I think it is a terrible procedure to take sandpaper to your fine timepiece, even if it is just the band. I happen to like PCLs, but certainly understand if you don’t; it’s your watch and you want it to look like you want it. If you would rather not have PCLs, then purchase a band without them, the Sub and Explorer come to mind. Is it cheap? No, but you could probably sell your band for very close to the cost of a new one.

Just MHO.

This is going to sound harsh...I'd be afraid my bracelet looks like that.

Scotch Brite on Polished Center Links

Don’t use Scotchbrite pad. Waaaayyy too coarse and abrasive. Use a four way nail buffer. Costs a few bucks and you can work up or down the scale of grit for the right satin/brushed texture. Smaller and flexible so you can be very precise. A Scotchbrite pad is taking an elephant gun to an ant. $5 online.

The PCLs look very nice in advertising copy and instagram posts but their inclusion on watches that are otherwise for daily use makes no sense. Brush away I think.

Don't use the green scotch brites, use the silver or burgundy. Someone with experience can touch up brushed surfaces that are hard to tell from factory finish even with a loupe.
