Seller's remorse
Imagine you had a watch 4-5 years ago and then you got bored of it somehow and then years later decide that you really miss it and want it back in your collection, but not any other watch, but that SPECIFIC one with the serial number you had.
Is there any way of finding out where that watch now is and, perhaps, making an offer to whoever owns it to purchase it from them? |

my suggestion is to let the past be the past, and move forward; the chances of you tracking down that exact same piece you used to own, is so infinitesimally small that you'd just be wasting your energy and getting your hopes up for nothing. i'm willing to bet that if you just look for a good example of that same reference at a good value, within a few days to weeks you'll realize that its much easier to connect/bond with a new (new to you) piece of the same reference, much more easily than you initially imagined it would be.

Sure. Report it as stolen and they'll call when it goes in for service someday.
I kid I kid.

I feel your pain. I let my 87 Land Cruiser go years ago. I was thinking just today I would like to get another, but not just any 87; I want my 87. Sigh. Omar is right, just move forward. I am now looking at 70’s FJ55s and will start anew.

Why don't you reach out to the person you sold it to?

That ship has sailed, getting it back won't feel the same. Let it go.

I would say there is a better chance of finding a long lost lover than the watch.

The only way you can do this is to follow the trail. Contact whom you sold it to and ask if they could reach out to whoever they sold it to with your offer price. If that person sold it to someone else, then you just keep following along until you locate it.

I would drop the thought. The watch is, hopefully, with someone else who has "bonded" with it and may not be in the condition it was when you sold it.

If you dumped an ex, do you think she'd willingly take you back?
Kidding aside, could always contact buyer and see whom they sold it to (and whether they'd reach out on your behalf). Out of curiosity, what was it? |

Fuhgedaboudit! It's like the ex-wife/girlfriend you got rid of 30 years ago. There's a reason you let go, and nothing likely has changed. Romanticizing the past only will doom you to be stuck in it. Move on, buddy.

That happened to me, albeit not for a Rolex. I sold a watch to a guy in Germany in 2019, and then in 2022, decided I wanted it back. Due to him being a friggin LEGEND of a person, he sold it back to me.

I had the same thought with a kidney I gave up. But it’s someone else’s now. Life goes on.

I regret selling my date just for $1500 :( to a friend after 2 years, which I paid $2200 with 25% discount from an AD.

If you want it back I know a guy. It's actually a little easier than a Daytona at retail.

I don’t second guess myself so I’m not going to imagine your scenario. I sold this imaginary watch for a valid reason. It’s gone. There are plenty of other watches to keep me entertained.

Even if you can get it back it's not the same watch anymore .. Must be a lot of others people wear and memories collected on the case ..

Even if you got the same watch back, it won’t be the same watch.

I've spent 5 or so years trying to find the 2500 Omega PO that I wore when married. Sold to cover unexpected dental bill that was out of our control (kids' bio dad). I don't obsess about it, but do check watchrecon at least once a week. Not a whole lot of a 2901.51.82s.

This happened to me not too long ago. I bought back the exact same watch from the fellow I sold it to:
https://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=846836 We made a gentleman’s agreement that if he ever decided to sell it, he’d contact me first. A man of his word and member here on TRF |

Sold my LV sub last March (celebrating the one year loss today..haha) but no regrets. Paid in retail at $10k and BobsWatches gave me $23k overnight after wearing it for 2 weeks.
Theres ZERO chance I'll score another lv sub now from a AD but at the end of the day, it, still, is a watch. |
