Rolex Service Centre fees
Hi all - I purchased an OP online, but had issues with the crown/time-keeping. I took it to an AD and they said they can post to the RSC for a £30 fee and also mentioned that if the watch wasn't purchased in the UK, I'd be liable to pay tax on it.
Is this right? I was under the impression that I wouldn't have to pay a penny to return a watch to the RSC? And as for tax - it would fall on me to pay, despite me not being the original purchaser? (I purchased from an online Jewellery store). |

I'm surprised that an AD would charge to send a watch in for service work, most do not. You can take or mail it in yourself or seek a qualified watchmaker.
As to tax, I understand that any import that has not had VAT paid would be liable for it, it doesn't matter where you got it from.

In the US, RSC reimburses owners for the Registered Mail fee to send the watch to them for warranty service. Interesting, they do not re-imburse the ADs, from what I am told, for the same mailing fees.

Are you located in London? I think there is an RSC located near you. Hopefully someone near you will post more information.

Thanks all. I've opted to return the watch to the seller instead (a non-AD) as I suspect they knew the watch had issues keeping time but tried to palm it off anyway.
I'll just continue waiting for a black 41mm OP from the AD. I've been waiting 14 months so far, AD told me another 8-10 is likely, but I think I'll feel much happier and more secure getting it from an AD than a non-affiliated jewellery shop. |
