A Week On Wrist: H. Moser Heritage Centre Seconds Funky Blue Fumé Dial

Well, it's been a solid week on the wrist and worn 24/7 other than pool swims and showers (30m WP rated). Rock solid, comfortable weight balance, easy to read... and EPIC lume! She came here magnetized and was ~+6/day so demag'ed her. Now after a week on the wrist, she is +1 second in total (hairspring measures 328 in schwing and the movement accuracy ebbs and flows + to - a second per day).

Overall am elated, love wearing her and the H. Moser Heritage Centre Seconds Funky Blue Fumé Dial really stands out. Movement decoration is truly exceptional, especially as H. Moser still hasn't gone stratospheric in price and has not suffered from being overly hyped. I can see easily why MB&F uses H. Moser dials. A great mechanical timepiece that presents an excellent value imho.

Am hesitant to give names, tho will say it is equal to or more visual beauty designed, finely constructed, and finished than some big-name brands with higher ask. I realize this is an 'entry-level' auto-wind time-only model, tho it looks and feels... like more. Am sure you've read the reviews by others online and seen the videos. Tim at Watchbox does a good job.

When winding it, it feels like a very fine buzz, not rough clicks like vintage pocket watches. Super-duper silky smooth too.

Thankfully the hype train has not distorted things for H. Moser, and they don't create that many pieces a year at >2000 in 2022.

Did I mention MB&F uses Moser Magic? They create their own very shock-resistant hairspring too.

As for the case, the 'coined' decorated sides are well done. The lugs are finely finished to the case, impressively so imho. I believe the mainstream reviewer slang would be "punches far above its weight".

I’ve handled before at an AD but struggled to pin it. Agree it’s a bit nuanced - IMO the closest comparable I could come up with was JLC. But even then the Moser’s movement gave me Germanic vibes which was interesting. And in some ways felt nicer/cleaner than JLC’s movements

Imho the movement is better than today's Richemont-owned JLC, and more akin to Glashutte Original in some respects. We have to give credit to H. Moser as they make 90% of bits in Switzerland (far more than most), in-house movement, plus they create their own hairsprings, dials, etc.

Also love their humor and lightheartedness toward the art of horology with some of their special editions.

Thanks for this post. Have almost pulled the trigger on this exact model several times. Ultimately decided that my pilot watch would be an IWC, but I do love this model and brand.

I don’t remember reading any reference to Moser making MB&F dials (except on the LM101 x Moser), even in the joint presentations between Max and Edouard I don’t think it was referenced?

Congratulations! Had eyed Moser from a distance for a year or two, and was blown away when I finally had a chance to see one in person – I bought one shortly after and haven’t regretted it. Love those pictures of the movement, and that blue dial really pops. Hope you enjoy it for many years to come!

I’m not even sure moser makes their dials in house. At least I can’t find anything to confirm and with then being such a prominent selling point you’d think that fact would be highlighted.

I do know their sister company produces hairspings for MBF.

Doesn’t rain on the parade for me if it’s the case. The dials are certainly beautiful either way. Now if you had outsourced and the dial is crap we have a problem!

Great question! A few references from Max uses Moser dials. Not all, yet more than just a few (relatively speaking since MB&F produced very few timepieces to begin with). Also, the double-hairspring MB&F uses is created / manufactured by H. Moser. For a reasonable ask, H. Moser offers a really nice double-hairspring tourbillon.

A most humble thanks guys. That's what basically happened to me. Heard about H. Moser, then finally saw one in person and came very close to getting it on the spot, yet DID NOT get it at the time. But it kept 'scratching' that part of my love for horology. Since H. Moser has not been part of the 'hype machine', for the time being, they can still be purchased at dealers.

Awesome lume and dial/movement visual aside, am truly blown away by the accuracy of the regulation, as she's been pretty much perfect timing over the past 10 days of 24/7 wear. Expected something like +6 sec/day, so this timepiece has far exceeded my every expectation.
