Openwork or Perpetual Calendar

Assuming you’re in the fortunate position to be an AP VIP, would you pick an Openwork or perpetual calendar? 15407st or 26574st?

Obviously both are the pinnacle of AP collecting, and are just as difficult to obtain.

Openwork strikes me as something uniquely AP (no other brand can quite match up). And the perpetual calendar oozes charm and ingrained in AP tradition.

Open works for me, but if its the PC ultra thin then thats something else.

15407st is a work of art even through it has movement of 37mm watch fitted in 41mm.
QP is close second.

I’d be equally happy with either. Would take the now disco titanium perpetual over the steel OW.

I recently received the 15407 from the boutique and nothing compares. It has to be seen in person as pictures do not do it justice to how special it is.

I have the 26574st and it's an amazing piece, but I would pick the openwork in this case. The 15416ce in particular. It's just special.

Really tough question this one. I am in the very fortunate position of having both. I'm not honestly sure that even if you put a gun to my head I could chose...perhaps right now, and perhaps simply because I have the open work out from the safe and its seeing some wrist time currently, I'd have to go with the open work. As others have said, the level of finishing on this and the clarity of the dial leaves other skeleton watches trailing in its wake IMHO. Of course I'm biased. I am not sure there is a bad choice here! whichever you get the chance of, grab it as both are fantastic watches! Good luck

I love the PC, so would definitely go for that. Then again, my AP house does not even answer my texts…

This is pure perfection. When compared to Overseas or Nautilus, the RO is so much easier to read & the dial is less clumsy despite having 4 iso 3 subdials.
And how brilliant is to set up the week indices on the outer part of the dial.

AP is so much about QP, also in the past. I would choose that. But both are great!

I personally went PQ route, but for everyone else I think Openworked is a better iconic choice.

Also, FWIW as a point of consideration, time consistently can be way off on the PQ, very wide tolerance. So you may find that to be annoying.

Openworked unless the QP is openworked too.

The double balance is very alive as a watch and a better value entry compared to a tourbillon. There’s just a lot more to marvel at compared to a pretty static QP

With the openworked you have motions. QP static dial is for me less interesting

Late to the party, but I vote Openworked as well. Best skeletonized movement anywhere, ever, IMO (even if it is a bit small for the 41mm case).

Edit: maybe the discontinued salmon dial Ti QP would cause second thoughts

QP is my favorite complication but AP openworked watches are state of art products. Basically the only OP ever done by AP that I don't like is the newest Jumbo OP...

I would take this 26615 QP anyday over the openwork ex the QP openwork. I wore an openwork for a few days and was underwhelmed, perhaps my expectations were too high.
