I guess the absense of a lume could be used for orienting the watch in the dark. Frankly I like the triangle myself. I see no need for Rolex to mess with something that is an icon.

An applied logo among them though in additionto some 12 O'clock index, would ruin that on a professional model such as a Sub, Explorer or GMT.
My 321 respectfully disagrees Basil :

I somehow knew you would bring this up, Brian
But the applied shiny Ω doesn't get mixed up with the indices or the hands on the speedy.
Now visualize an applied crown logo under the inverted triangle of your GMT, among the other shiny bits: indices, hands etc. and you have the last drop that makes the cup run over...

PS: I love that 321

I like it the way it is. It would look out of place on the Sub.

Rolex will never break with tradition - nor should they with 60 y of submariners. That being said it would look good (maybe) on yellow gold and TT models. Would love to see a mock up.

But I do love the submariner/ gmt master dial layout - absolutely best around imho.

what i want Rolex to do for any new references is switch from the white gold applique indices to Platinum! incremental upgrades- the Rolex way! (retrofit the other current references eventually.)

I strongly prefer an applied crown and wish it was for every model

That's because gold is very resistant to saltwater corrosion.

I think it's fine as is. IMO, an applique crown would look weird below the triangular 12 o'clock marker and wouldn't like it as a replacement for the triangle.

I'd totally be okay with an applied crown

Someone had mentioned the 1680 dial, here's a pic of it

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my Submariner, but for $10k+, I would think Rolex would do more with a mass printed dial...

What do you think?

It’s just fine the way it is. Tool watch.

If they changed it some would complain that an applied crown spoiled the dial.

Nice timing in this thread. They even show a crown being applied in their video released today ...

I’d be into it. I’ve always appreciated applied logos, adds an element of depth to the dial.

Yep best looking subs and gmts are from this era. The last thing they need now is more bling.

I really hope they don't do what you suggest and ruin the look of their professional models.
