I know they probably still working in their constituents, but 10 weeks???????
I thought running the country is a 24/7 concept like the emergency services.

Wait don't invade the UK our MPs are on their hols watching porno paid for by the people.
Parliament does not run the country, it one part of the legislature. The Government runs the country through their ministries. Ministers and their civil servants do not take 10 week long holidays. Most MPs, as you acknowledge, continue to work with their constituents and often on second jobs.

I'll bet you think "overpaid" MPs should not have a second job or outside interests but I also bet you think we should have MPs who are not simply career politicians. £60K for working an average of a 70 hour week is fair in my view. Have you any idea how dull most of their work is? I doubt it, I would want double.

The whole expenses scandal arose because the ignorant general public, hypocritically moaned about pay rises with MPs being afraid to be seen to accept them, even when recommended by independent pay reviews. For some, their way of making up this shortfall was to take advantage of generous expenses and allowances and thereby an indefensible, if not unexplainable, culture arose.

There are too many laws being passed in my view, so let MPs work on other areas instead of debating new ones.
