As far as getting from an AD, you will have to build a relationship that can only come through time (and at least some purchase history.) It’s a great story, but to even tell the story to an AD will have to be through that time of building a relationship. I think it will put you “higher” on the list to get one sooner than someone without a story, but you don’t get on any kind of list without that relationship.

If you appreciate watches, then build some history buying what you like. Look around at the AD. Maybe after 1 or 2 pieces over a 18 month period they’ll allocate you a BLRO.

If you just want this one piece, just go grey. You won’t get one at retail as your first and only piece, and even if you can tell your whole story to all the ADs out there, at the end of the day they get a limited number of hot watches from Rolex (and are forced to take undesirable watches too) and they need to run a business. It’s not reasonable to think they should basically give away free money to people, regardless of the story.

Thanks for the feedback. Actually have a little bit of a relationship with an AD. Got a submariner last year and a datejust on special order that should be incoming imminently. Let's see how that plays out in terms of relationship collateral... maybe there is a chance!? :)

Many thanks to all the replies in this thread for all the support and feedback. I was a bit apprehensive about whether or not a post like this would resonate with the community so I really appreciate all of you for leaving your thoughts.

I hope to see more posts from the community putting their stories out there - it really is the most fascinating part of this hobby for me!

Good luck OP I hope you can land one!! Though exceedingly rare, I have heard of/seen members here land BLRO’s and even one white dial SS Daytona I can remember without significant AD relationships.
