Trade Possibility - 116610LV for a 126610LV

Dear TRF,

I got a Submariner 116610LV which I bought at retail in 2017, should I make a trade for a 126610LV dated 2023 full set at grey for a even deal or add a little bit of cash?

Appreciate for your opinion, thanks.

I prefer the 126LV over the 116LV, but I wouldn't agree to a straight trade if I were the owner of the 116LV

No I would not do that trade at all. Especially since you bought at retail and your name is on the card.

I prefer the 12 personally but it’s objectively worth less than the 11. You need to pickup some cash with that trade to make it even. Straight up, he’s hosing you.

I prefer the 12 LV.

Putting personal preference aside, your 11 LV is worth several thousand more than the new one. You need to get some cash back for sure for this to pencil out.

11 is a much, much better watch. it's worth more than the 12, by the way

wise man say: never trade discontinued rolex for current production rolex

How about trading current production rolex for a discontinued one?

Absolutely never!

Keep the hulk and add the Starbucks in time. My advice is not to sell a hulk.

I’m considering doing the opposite. I have a December 2022 126610LV I bought at retail. I missed the boat on the 116610LV

I would NOT do that trade. Also, adding cash on top towards the 12 would be adding insult to injury

Not in a million years. But that's just me. If you want the trade, do it. It will be a win for you and a win for the next owner of the 116610LV.

No, the market price for the Hulk is higher than the Kermit II.

Keep your Hulk and buy the Kermit II at your AD.

Imho keep the Hulk. Personally, only ADD timepieces. No trades, no sales, no swaps.

Trading a Hulk for a black dial oversized clasp Sub is a mistake in my opinion. Hulk will win over the Starbucks in any elevator duel. You are trading a potential future collectable icon Sub.

Never. The Hulk is special with the green dial and as you know it is discontinued and will only increase in value over the years. The new version is a just a submariner with a green dial to me.

Agree with those that prefer the 12-series, but wouldn't make that trade.

NO. The Hulk is a more interesting and comfortable watch than the 126610LV. I had Cermit and got bored quickly. Apart from the green frame, there was nothing special about it. I sold it, still looking for a 116610LV in good condition, and finally bought it.

It’s your call OP; do what makes sense to you based on your desire and reason for considering the trade. To the dismay of some on TRF, I traded my 116610LV for a different watch I saw as a lifetime watch for me, not a watch that I’d trade or sell someday anyway. I wore it less actually after all the hype given its discontinuation. I used the the extra $8,500 I gained to purchase many items for a new home. As a female, I just didn’t envision myself at 80+ wearing the Hulk. The main reason I would’ve kept it was for the potential financial gain on it. It’s just a watch, not an investment item. Instead it found its way to a new happy owner.

Just my 2 cents. YMMV

Owned both and absolutely like the 12LVc better on many levels. The 12 series for me after 2 years now is the perfect amount of green and the case/bracelet design is significantly better. IMO.
Forget about money as it’s all about the watch you want to wear. The acquisition has become the Rolex focus for the last few years and it’s clouding the actual relationship between the watch and owner.
