The YM is a great watch and one that is difficult to get from AD's at retail. Just wait and see if they offer it to you. If they do then go try it on and see how it fits and wears. Every watch does not have to be perfect in a multi-watch collection. You will like some more than others. I would buy it, wear it and enjoy it. I do not like AD games but it is a fact of the experience and the opportunity to break into the customer side, not just the I want this side, is important. Good luck and let us know what you decide.

Just be honest with the AD and only buy what you like.

Only in the world of Rolex would someone buy something they didn't want to try to set themselves up for something they wanted. Would you expect one of your plumbing clients to buy a sump pump they didn't want just so they could get on a list to purchase the furnace they've been craving?

I started this journey in 2020, and after 2 years of the same "we have your info, we'll be in touch" I gave up and went grey. Super happy with the Pepsi GMT I bought. Well today I was driving by after work and decided to stop in just for fun. Now its been at least 6 months since I've stopped by as I gave up.. Talked to the same sales rep and he remembered me and even knew my name. Originally I had said I liked the Rhodium Yachtmaster, which I knew was gonna be easier to get than a GMT. Well he says to me, "you like this blue yachtmaster, I might be getting one soon." Surprised, I said yes since I feel its a good move to establish this relationship with my local AD for future purchases, and I really felt like he was serious. The question at hand is, does it make sense to buy this watch to establish the relationship even though it wasn't my first choice, and would I be blowing future purchase if I don't buy it?
I would not purchase something I really didnt want to just establish a relationship because there will always be somebody with a better financial relationship with the AD salesman. I would have related the story about having to purchase gray market because you waited for over two years for that AD to sell you something. But then state what you really want and hoope you dont have top wait another two years.
My nephew travelled to another state due to a friend sending him to their AD. Of course, they put him on the list but to ingratiate himself, he purchased a breitling he didnt want. He still has not received any calls.

Forget the relationship… one doesn’t exist or you’d already have got what you wanted from them.

As for should you buy the YM - it’s a beautiful watch, and I’d certainly welcome one into my collection - but only you know if you truly want it. 😎

If you haven’t been allocated a rhodium YM by now, that says a lot. You should pass on the blue YM if it’s not what you want and go gray, again, for the rhodium YM. With that said, I prefer the blue over the rhodium and it was actually my first Rolex.

You only buy watches that you really want, no other reason.

My advice - don’t play the game. I haven’t and building the relationship worked and has continued to pay dividends. Don’t buy anything you’re not 100% in love with.
