Scratching Daytona Bezel - any tips?

Hey Guys!

I know this might sound stupid, but since receiving my SS Daytona a few months ago, I've become incredibly paranoid about scratching the bezel (something I never really had to worry about with my GMTIIc).

I've already got one small ding that's only visible in certain light.. but either way, it's driving me nuts. I've kept the bracelet in pretty good condition, but as you all know, those polished center links are scratch magnets.

Any tips for keeping them scratch free, or is it safe to use a cape cod cloth often to clean it up? I'd love to do a self polish before my wedding in 2 months, but.. is it a good idea?

Probably the only way you will prevent it from not scratching is not wearing it. Unfortunately the Daytona bezel is a scratch magnet.

Self polishing the bezel I have not seen before... PCL's you should be fine with the cape cod.
On the bezel, if it is a small scratch, I would tape everything around the bezel scratch and then do the polishing to make sure the polishing compound does not get to the numbers or unwanted areas...

On the bright side, I smacked my Daytona into the doorway, yesterday, and I was very pleasantly surprised to not see any visible damage.

apparently RSC don't polish the bezel if scratched/dinged etc, they replace it completely so it must be a nightmare to sort out scratches..

Impossible to avoid or fix, that's the reason I got rid of my TT Daytona after a couple of months. It's like the bezel is made out of butter especially if it's a gold bezel :(

I have used Cape Cod on my Daytona bezel to remove swirls and it came up a treat.

If the scratches are deep then Cape Cod wont touch them.

Clearly you now appreciate what your gmt could bring to the table.

You have done it, you acquired your grail daytona , you got it out of your system.

Now sell it & go back to your old friend:-)

Oh don't get me wrong.. I love the Daytona. I was actually thinking about flipping the GMT :) The daytona (to me) is a much more refined timepiece.

Spend $4 and buy a little bottle of "hard as nails". Brush one coat onto the bezel and let it dry. It'll take 10 seconds to apply it and a few minutes to dry. It will be invisible and glossy, just like your bezel if you had just polished it. It will completely prevent small scratches from accruing and it will last for weeks if not months. To remove it, a Q-tip and alcohol or nail polish remover does the trick.

I wouldn't put acetone anywhere near a painted bezel, missing paint looks far worse than honorable scratches imo

yep, the center links look vintage after a few weeks. Chances are you see it more than other's. I've used toothpaste/toothbrush/distilled water. If the paste turns grey you're removing metal. This is likely to be undesirable.

Be glad you worst problem in life is only a little scratch on your Bezel. That is how I get through the agony.

Just wear your Daytona, if you worry about scratches on the bezel you will never wear your watch or be super paranoid. You can not avoid scratches, I wear mine SS Daytona daily and the bezel has some major scratches on it. There is no way to avoid these normal wear and tear bezel scratches (unless it becomes a safe queen). Enjoy your watch, it will come back from RSC looking good as new!

How much is the price of a new bezel? I recently got a SS Daytona and already sad to see hairline scratches in some light. My most expensive watch purchase and feel sick to my stomach.
