Where are all those “you don’t need the date underwater” purists now?!

Date still not needed. He wasn't "in the water" but was in a lodge taking experiments and zoom calls. Plenty of apparatuses ticking down the days.

The way I understand it, he stayed at 30 feet of salt water negating the need to decompress. I could be wrong, but that was what was reported.

This harkens back to the glory days of Rolex. Adventure and exploration, “if you were going to live underwater for 100 days you’d wear a rolex”.

You’re misunderstanding the ‘purists’. The Sea-Dweller introduced a date function to cater to divers who lived in underwater habitats. The date isn’t used in the water itself. It’s used to keep track of the date while away from sunlight.

He was living in a chamber at the same pressure atmosphere as on the surface just like the James Cameron deep dive to 10,908 metres. But inside the Deepsea challenger it was kept to normal surface atmosphere pressure so no need for any sort decompression .

This is not the case:

Dituri's undertaking, dubbed Project Neptune 100, was organized by the foundation. Unlike a submarine, which uses technology to keep the inside pressure about the same as at the surface, the lodge's interior is set to match the higher pressure found underwater.

Next time I have some issues with the wife I'm gonna do the same experiment. Maybe even break the record.
