Neither DD36 or DD40....are on the far ends of either size spectrum....way too small or way too large...in general. Try both on...several times...until you 'feel' consistent in your decision on size. If neither feel right, try something different.

From the wrist photos, I'd say DD36 is likely a better fit than DD40 on your wrist. The 36mm may feel a little smaller than the average man's modern day sized watches (40-44mm), but is a classic size. That said, if your wrist is smaller but body size larger (as you stated), I'm sure you'd be fine rocking the DD40 also.

My guidance...follow your gut....AFTER trying the sizes on multiple times.

Looks fine to me if you like it go for it.

I wore a one 36mm Rolex for a decade or so.

I wouldn’t wear one now. Honestly In this day and age it’s definitely leaning on the feminine side. You have to change with the times.

Interesting comment Jay given your desire for a Rainbow Daytona.

Personally I think the 36 mm would be a better fit for the OP's wrist. Would agree with trying both on multiple times and buying what you enjoy.

I own a few Daytonas. Size is great. 36mm datejust is smaller by quite some distance, I’ve kept mine for when my daughter is of age.

Not the size that is the interesting part, more your previous referral to the femininity of 36 mm, yet desire a gem set watch - which can be considered a more feminine version, if gender labels are deemed necessary.

I have a 40mm DD and have had the 36mm as well. Either can work. I have a 6.3" flat wrist.

There's no way we can make that judgement for you from one isolated wrist shot. Like you say, your height would certainly be a factor for me. But I will say this. That thing is a work of art and size be damned, it belongs on your wrist.

C'mon man, are you gonna live your life listening to a bunch of guys on the internet?

(And yes, I am one of those guys )

Is this DD40 too big?

Close up wrist shots always make the watch appear larger than how it actually wears on a wrist. Plus, you’re 6 foot 4?!!! Get the 40.

And for the record, I am not a 36 hater at all.

I would choose the 36 imo. It would fit and present much better I think.

Wouldn’t wear a 36. This is about you not me but I still suggest 40, I think it’s more modern and even a bit sportier..
Even my wife who has a 36 pretty much only wears my 40 now.

I hit the gym everyday and still have puny wrists. Not much muscle to build in the wrist.

3 set of wrist curls, 8 to 10 reps each set. Rest 1 minute between each set. Do this 3 days a week. Rest 1 day in between workouts. Start small. Maybe 20 Lbs or even 15 lbs if you have to. Work your way up to 50 lbs.

It mostly builds your forearms but could add a 1/2 to 3/4 inch to your wrists.

Also, if you’re going to work out your forearms, you need to work out your biceps and triceps too.

My wrists are 7.5” but they weren’t always that big.

Too big at least for my taste on this style of watch, which is more on the dressier style.

Cannot beat the 36 for wearability(keep in mind thag this is a lot added weight compared to you4 usual stainless Rolex) , form and presence.

** wrist is 7.25 for reference.

Suggest a DD36 instead as suggested by M5

Agree with others about perspective.

Stand a few feet back from a mirror and see.
I actually think my dd40 wears pretty small on my 7" wrist.

Either way, very comfortable piece. Good luck

It's tough to read a comment like this. I'm shopping for a 36mm DD and was a bit skeptical that it would be too small on my 6.8 inch wrist. When I look at on my wrist it looks good, but the mirror shot definitely makes it look to be on the smaller side

Another vote for 40mm is too big. It's true that a wrist photo is not a good indicator of what it will look like due to the focal length of the camera used - it will always look bigger in photos - but this looks significantly too large for your wrist in the photos given where the lugs end up, so I'd think the photos are enough to say it's too big.

That said, mirror shots might show an accurate reality of what others will see, but that's not how you use the watch either. The best way to evaluate a watch's size? Hold your wrist up as you would normally to look at the time, but not through a camera lens. Just look at it in the natural way you would use it, with your eyes. Then you'll know if the size is right or not. I actually just did this today with a 36mm Datejust. I had wrist shots and mirror shots, but neither really represented my reality as the owner and user of the watch. I went back to the AD, put it on my wrist, left the camera in my pocket, and just evaluated how the size looked on my wrist in normal use checking the time.

I’m a 40 fan but the 36 looks great as well. It really does (and should) come down to your opinion.

I think 40 looks fine on your wrist, but as others mentioned maybe try on the 36 and go with what you think looks best

No it's not too big, more or less just about right before being too big. But you are a big person, it'll look fine, in fact at 6'4 i think a 36 would be small
