It's Dirty

I was out and about yesterday looking at new and used brands in Nashville, nothing really stood out, but one Pepsi.

In the display case at a multi-brand dealer was a Pepsi. And it was nasty. Dirt, crud, funk in the bracelet to go along with the $19,000 plus price tag. Pulled the stem, same thing, a world of funk. I mentioned it to the sales gal, she shrugged, stuck it back in the case without wiping the crystal, nothing.

No thanks.

I believe I know whom you are talking about in terms of retailers.

If it is who I think, the owner is pretty nice, but a lot of the ground floor people seem disinterested in what they are doing. One or two are great.

However they really have a huge 2nd hand inventory that I really can’t understand who they are selling to as they do move them, but they are always significantly higher than anyone else especially comparing to the condition.

I guess they just get lucky with who is selling to them. I took a watch in once to sell to them and they lowballed the hell out of it with a bunch of used car dealer sort of statements trying to justify it. It was embarrassingly low (think 50% used retail on SS 6 digit sports model). I explained this to the rep and he eventually caught on and sort of agreed, but above his head didn’t care.

If they won't even extend the effort to clean the watch there's no reason to work with them.

You’d think places would want to make whatever they are selling stand out for the right reasons not because they need a right good clean

That’s such a lazy and a really poor way of selling a luxury item.

OMG! How would you even try it on? I did try on a few used Subs, at a local Mall jeweler, a few weeks ago, and they were spotless. That’s how you present a nice used Rolex.

It is odd for sure. Most dealers clean any type of stock up before they sell it.

I would have thought the "never polish" and original crowd would be all over something like this.
