Handling marks on hands

Hey guys.

BLNR back from having dust removed from dial for the second time. Service was brilliant, RSC London sorted it on the spot on both occasions. Watch now back with ?handling mark on second hand. Catches the light ever so often. Would you get them to replace/correct? My biggest fear is that it’s going to come back with more dust!

See attached pictures. Have a good one.

This. Every service carries with it the risk of some new issue.

How is their service brilliant if you need to keep going back for more dust/marks?

By service I mean being accommodating. I'm not local to London, they've always made the effort to have it sorted the same day.

If you don’t normally use a loop or a magnifying glass to tell the time, then I really can’t see this being a massive issue.

Sounds like you are stuck in a loop. Every time they open it something else goes wrong. I think you know the solution

Good eye, if you saw that without a loupe. I think I can now say I've seen everything. Handling marks on watch hands? I'd have never thought such a thing possible. Leave it be. To your point, you'll just end up with lint somewhere else.

Think of it like a birth mark. Focus on what you love about the watch mate. Otherwise you’ll drive yourself nuts.

I don't know, it would bother me as well.

Everyone can say don't worry and it's normal things like this happen, but to be honest, I feel it's not normal at all. When paying 10k+ for a watch and 750 or whatever for a service, how hard is it for them to double check before sealing it up again?
Bet there's a healthy margin on these services without any super complicated movements or super rare parts, they are just mass produced tools, right?
Then at least do the job well if you want to stick the bill to your customer...

Btw, it also looks like there are marks on the second hand counter balance?

Can confirm, nothing on counterbalance. Didn’t need a loupe to see mark on the tip though, catches the light and can be quite obvious.

Electron Microscope is the only way to go. It will tell you what brand of coffee the watchmaker had before he sat down to work on your watch.

I’d show them and see what they can do about it.

The fact that you see it with your naked eye will bother you.

For me, once they get a few scratches, nicks and bruises, I tend to stop noticing the little things (same with buying a new car).

If it bugs you, have it fixed.

Don't be upset by the unkind people. None of them would say it to your face.

You've paid a lot of money. It should be to your satisfaction.

Smart decision to let it go until the next service. As you know it may come back with yet another issue.

FWIW, I would not personally send it back, and I think you are making the right call. It's a mass production watch and it will have some imperfections in finishing/assembly. I consider this to be acceptable, and much less noticeable than the imperfections that the watch will develop from normal wear.

Obviously it is really bothering you, since your posting about it. Send it back. It is not a big deal for them to correct it. Since it is a 2nd time go back, they might give a little extra care this time.
