I think it’s a shame they did this, now there is 0 distinction between platinum and white gold day date except for ice blue color dial all other dials will look identical to the white gold model, idk why anyone would want this. I’m not a fan and if I had to guess smooth bezel will be back in a year or 3.

i agree even though i heavily favor fluted bezels. the plat day date just doesn't stand out now

I love the platinum Day Date's new fluted bezel. I also did the smooth bezel, especially for a less flashy Day Date that had a sportier look. I wish Rolex would've kept the option to choose either bezel, plus added the option of a smooth bezel to RG specifically as well. That way we would've had two classic options with fluted only (YG and WG) and two more sporty metals (PT and RG) allowing the optional smooth bezel.

I can't afford one, but if I could, smooth bezel. Looks more clean and not too busy. Lovely piece.

I find that the "deconstructed" romans look great as they match the fluted bezel myself.

The "base" option on the datejust (no basic Rolex I know) was not to get the fluted bezel. So you could argue that the platinum looked more like a steel watch before. Now it looks like a white gold watch (yes, the President bracelet was also a differentiator vs a steel watch). We will see whether that makes platinum more popular (inclusion of bezel).

I'm a bit surprised that that they didn't make it an (expensive) option. I do wonder how difficult it is to do as was also noted on this thread, the crown has been fluted for a while now...I actually prefer the look of Rolex white gold as I prefer the slight gold tint (but I like yellow gold, so that's probably why).

I agree, I do love the new look, but wish they would have kept the option for smooth or fluted. I also wish they would only offer the ice blue or unique dials on the platinum. Seems to redundant to now offer all the white gold colored dials in platinum as well.

Platinum DD40 is pure fire

They should have left smooth version as well, just like they used to have on the WG 118209 (smooth) and 118239 (flutted) models

18239 and 118209 below:

Have you ever seen one in person? I can assure you it will stand out. Don’t let pictures fool you. There is nothing underwhelming about a plat Daydate. Fluted or smooth.

I own one, and I agree 100% put it next to a steel watch or a white gold watch and it’s night and day. Nothing else out there is as bright.

One year run of the DD40 in platinum with smooth bezel or with that specific dial?

Others have found a way (PF for example) and I think Rolex just had to upgrade their processing methods, or spend more time and money to just do it. I'd imagine it would wear down the drill bits a lot more, so they'll need replacing more often. I'm happy to stick with my smooth bezel :-)

Yep, it’s smooth bezel with white deconstructed numerals and ice blue sunburst dial.

Ah ok. I just picked up one of the last smooth bezel versions with the motif dial. Really happy with my decision.

Nothing stealth about a DD bruh… no matter what bezel you got

Just received a 2023 platinum day date with fluted bezel with ice blue dial and baguette diamond hour markers from my AD. I originally requested an ice blue dial with the deconstructed romans but when my AD called me with the baguette dial, I couldn’t refuse it.

Really happy with my choice.
