DD 40 - white, Champagne, or silver

Thoughts on availability of these in yellow gold at AD’s or boutique? Been on the fence and hoping things are almost back to reality. If I go pre-owned, looks like mid $30’s may be around the corner? Or, am I dreaming?

All great dial choices there….as for pricing, we’re not there yet…but I’d expect these to eventually get to 25% under retail eventually. When that will be, who knows….

Yea, tried Carmel while on vacation and no luck. Will make more of an effort or call in a favor soon though.

New is around $38.5 - wish had crystal ball to know where a great/mint a few years old will be soon….

I don't think you're dreaming, but condition, age, and papers will all come into play significantly to that number. I've seen some older examples (I believe one was a white dial and one silver) a little above that range, but you might have to factor in a service.

But, if so, that solves the paperwork issue. And yeah, to answer your question, I think these are coming around, if not to reality, at least to only semi-ridiculous, as opposed to ridiculous.

Who know, there might even be some in the case for sale by year's end. Good luck,

I also don't see a discount being likely at the AD or Boutique so plan on MSRP and look at those prices. I believe the standard is the champagne dial.

Silver dial has an elegant look and contrast to make the Romans pop. The champagne is too old school and the Romans just blend away

White romans would be my choice. Looks like prices are almost the same new or gray.

I just bought a complete WG DD unworn for just under retail on-line. I doubt you will see 25% off ever again. I am seeing used WG Subs for about 37K, so the market is becoming more rational again. At least on many of the PM watches, there is no longer the need to wait years at an AD.

Champagne on YG is of course the classic, but I find it trite and unappealing.

For DD, I have a few controversial opinions.

1. PM should not have lume. That means go for Romans or gems on the hour markers.
2. Unique dials are my strong preference. Modern such as Meteorite, Onyx, Falcon Eye, Eisenkeisel, etc.

But If I were to get YG and a common dial, it would be white with romans. My first choice on YG would be Black dial with baguettes.

I am biased however, owning the WG with meteorite and baguettes.

I always wondered how watches were going for 25% under retail. Anyone care to elaborate?

When I got my DD40 Olive in 2016 msrp was $37,500 and I scored it for 28,500

Man, you stole that lol. It was simple supply and demand…not enough people were interested in the PM pieces…and even some of the non-hype SS pieces.

I’m not sure we’ll ever get to 25% discounts off MSRP from the Rolex dealers but pre-owned/grey will almost certainly get there for many PM models.

for me, White Dial DD40 (in Rose Gold, however.)
If Yellow Gold, I'd go with the stella inspired green dial.

I have two that I prefer. I really am excited about the new YG with silver dial and batons. I really don't like Roman Numerals. My other choice would be the WG with silver baguette dial which is very rare compared to the other dials.

I ended up with the silver dial and romans. It doesn’t photograph as well as it looks in the flesh. Super happy with the decision.

White is the worst for a gold day date or gold Daytona or gold skydweller IMO

While I usually like contrast, for the DD I prefer the classic look of the champagne dial on YG.

Why did pandemic suddenly cause such insane demand across almost all models for Rolex and also demand for ap and patek
