Help 16610lv without papers
Im thinking of buying a 16610 lv without papers. Seller and I agreed that the watch will be appraised.
Is there things I should look for to check if its a real LV and not an LN Thanks for everyones help. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

The LV would have different dial (maxi) and hands than the 16610. A google search should help you with what you need. At a glance it looks fine to me but I am no expert. Obviously insert as well being an LV. WIthout papers the only way to know is sending it to rolex for an estimate for service and you get a estimate and then know its legit. Up to you but an outside appraisal does nothing unless Rolex does it.

Even the maxi dial / hands can be retrofitted along with the green bezel - maybe unlikely, but it is doable. For a LV, personally, I'd require authentic rolex papers. If no papers, then send to rolex to authenticate (but I'd likley walk away from this deal)

As both above have said - ask the seller to get it into Rolex for an estimate. Then you will be good.
It looks fine to me and the switching of dials, while possible, is likely so expensive that it’s unlikely in my book. |

Are there are some obvious differences?
My ‘M’ 16610LV for comparison.

The reason why is that I recall a few years ago now on this forum, that somebody bought a Kermit which was happily serviced by Rolex as a Kermit and it wasn't detected by Rolex that it was a standard 16610. I can't recall exactly how it all unfolded, but somehow it came to light that it wasn't a genuine Kermit after involvement by Rolex in Switzerland. It all worked out ok for the buyer in the end and the watch was returned to the vendor and all moneys refunded. The vendor had bought it in good faith as a Kermit as well. I don't recall all the other details about this instance but it's a salutary lesson into the pitfalls we may deal with on occassion in this hobby. The pics of the watch look good if that's the one you're looking at. I'm not sure of the processes, checks and balances that Rolex go through, but it goes to show how things can slip through the cracks. It's an old saying that we are buying the seller as much as we are buying the watch Let us know how you go with it. |

Because the price delta between a regular Sub and the LV and how easy it is to make a franken by shenanigans this reference in particular is an absolute must have papers watch.
Yours must be very much below market value for even considering it. Resell in the future might be a challenge as well

That's the only watch I would not buy without official papers or papers from Rolex stating it was a genuine LV.As yes there are many 16610LN watches on the market that have been changed into 16610LV because of the silly prices some are willing to buy.

The white hang tag is the ONLY way to tell if it’s a genuine LV outwith sending to RSC for a service. If the white tag is missing you need to have RSC authenticate it as an LV.
I suspect the watch in the OP is fake, it has little short stumpy crown guards - just the recent fakes of this watch. Walk away. |

This is actually an LV and not a modified LN, as it has larger dot indices than the LN.

There's enough of them out there that I would get a complete set for piece of mind and not having to second guess everything.

Changing a dial is less than 20 minutes job

The 16610LV is the only watch I would never buy without papers. There is no way to know if it’s an actual 16610LV or a 16610LN that has been converted with a maxi dial, maxi minute hand and LV bezel insert.

No way without papers. Way too many modded to look like a genuine LV.

The 16610LV is the watch I would want to buy through Rolex's Certified Pre-Owned program, or through an AD's unofficial CPO-type program that can confirm it is a real LV. As others have said, it is not difficult (for those with the skills) to modify a LN to appear to be a LV.

It’s halfway to becoming a no crown guard Sub.

Yeah that has been over polished. The crown guards and lugs. Look elsewhere. Honestly eBay has good ones and will be authenticated before it ships to you. I got my mint LV m serial from there but I paid $16k no papers at the peak of market 2 years ago. Now they’re like $12k

Depends on the deal? Either way it’s a big risk, the condition is not so good. I would pass on it.
