Zenith Chrono Sport or Speedmaster Pro
Kinda debating between these 2. You can find the zenith for around $8k on the secondary market so prices are similar. Thoughts?

Speedy. Not even close as far as I'm concerned...and you can a brand new Speedy from an AD at a discount so arguably better value.

Have a Speedmaster Moonphase and love it; also want to add a Zenith. The movement in the Zenith has a really cool history but the Speedmaster is iconic. I’d try to get to a place you can try both on and see what sings to you.

I have owned both, sold both off. The Speedy - great legibility, great heritage. I found it to be a bit dry and I hardly ever wore it. The Zenith is a looker, although the back had some slight legibility issues in some lighting(I found the white better in that regard), really cool movement, but damn that clasp is awful on that watch. Plus, if you are the type to do your own link work the Zenith requires an extra gear of patience.

Speedy is a better watch with a better movement… but since that’s not a discussion, id say get the one you like. I’ve owned a couple zeniths El Primeros and a couple speedies. Both are great watches. But I have a preference for the speedy. I find the Zenith to be sort of a beta watch (except for the a386). Omega does not have that problem.

I love my Speedmaster Pro. I have a soft spot for classic chronographs, and I'll have an El Primero in the collection some day. I think if choosing one or the other I would stick with the Speedmaster Pro.
Thank goodness we're not arguing in this thread about which crystal belongs on the Omega (which, of course, is plexiglass ). |

Personally, I don’t like modern iteration of the El Primero….I currently own Speedy right now, and honestly, I’ll pick Breitling B01 chrono over the Zenith

I owned a Speedy Pro and sold it. 2 things for me: 1) I absolutely did not enjoy winding it. Always found it to be tough to grip the crown with the crown guards. 2) it always felt too tall for me, as if it sat up on my wrist. Just my experience.
Not what you asked, but I bought a Zenith in the 38mm A386 case and have really enjoyed it. It feels a little more compact, the overlapping sundials are visually interesting, and the automatic movement negates the winding issue. That said, winding the Zenith is no real joy with the pushers constantly getting in the way of my oversized fingers. But wind once and then don't worry until it gets put away for something else. Without question, for me. I would go for the Zenith - in fact, I own the Zenith and have just (yet again) sold my somewhat bland Speedy.

Tastes vary, but 3861 Speedy is the most unworn and boring watch in my collection. Actually, I am selling it for the same reason.
After 2 years I've concluded it's a watch that looks great in the photos but on the wrist is quite underwhelming. |

Speedmaster has history and (to me) has a slightly duller look.
Zenith has history and the tri-colour dials especially look really beautiful. You gotta try them and see what works for you. |
