Santos or Santos-Dumont as a dress watch?

Good day,
I am in the market for a dress watch, one that is <40mm. The Cartier Tank is an option but is on the small side. Wondering if the Santos or Santos-Dumont, both on leather, and in medium or small size, respectively, are good dress watch options? Of course I’d prefer a 5196 but it is not in the cards at the moment.

Appreciate all comments.

Thank you,
J

Both are great watches
You need to try them on and see which you like most.

The Santos-Dumont definitely wears dressier in my experience (I've got a Dumont and a Santos). Worth trying them on to see what you prefer, though. They're both great options, and the quick-swap bracelet on the Santos means you can easily swap between the bracelet and strap to wear it in more settings.

I think Santos Dumont is more elegant model and the normal Santos is more on the sport side

Agreed. I prefer the Santos more for its versatility though.

Santos Dumont in large size would be ideal.

Agree. I love the Dumont. I have a Tank Must XL Auto now, and I dig it, but I'm noodling the idea of swapping it for a Dumont.

Get the santos in medium as it comes in metal band AND a leather strap so you can switch on and off which is like having 2 watches

Here is the santos medium and the Dumont large on my 6 5/8”- ish wrist.

The Dumont is technically my wife’s, but I would totally wear it. It’s a great size for a dress watch

Just picked up the Dumont XL in RG. Originally wanted to go with the Santos RG on strap but I found the Santos a bit bulkier and less dressy in contrast to the Dumont. Once I put the Dumont on it was a no brainer.

Personally, I'd go for the Dumont....it looks more elegantly refined over the normal Santos

Thanks for the pics and for keeping the thread going. Good food for thought, the Dumont is looking good!

I would prefer the Santos Dumont as it looks more refined while the polished bezel is thinner and has less surface area for scratches.

Despite the dressy image, it seems the Santos Dumont can still be dressed down with rubber straps as per Delugs.

Agree with this. Head over to my IG and you can see how versatile it is on straps. I have a green, orange, and purple stingray that really change the dynamics of the watch.
