Wear your blusey with pride. I am sure it took a lot on your part to be able to get it. So enjoy wearing it as your daily and don't worry about what others think about it.

I wore my TT sky to work everyday and it eventually made people jealous or painted me as a showoff. Regardless I dont regret it, wear it and stand on business ;)

I wore mine many times at work. Some times people did make comments or compliments.
If you don’t want that: don’t wear. Otherwise wear it.

Apple engineer here. We have a guy in our team who’s worn a bluesy for years. People did notice it when he just got it, but after a week or so nobody talked about it anymore. I’m on the wait list for an Air King and I’m sure I’ll get a comment or two from a few folks but then that’ll subside as well. Oh, my VP wears a Sea Dweller and I’ve never heard anybody say anything about that.
What’s much more important is how you conduct yourself and how you perform in your job. So I wouldn’t worry too much about the somewhat flashy watch :) |

Wearing bluesy to work
I’d imagine you’re fine. The fact that you’ve asked this question means you are socially aware. Probably a lot more than most.
Maybe at the start you scope your workplace out? There times when it might be better to wear your beater watch, you seem sensible enough to work that out. For instance I don’t wear a gold Rolex or patek when negotiating a collective bargaining agreement or some subsidy from a government department etc. normal work sure, I am near the top at my organisation though. If I saw a new starter wear a Rolex but working very hard my reaction would be good on him/her. If the person was wearing a Rolex, lazy and kept asking for a payrise different story. That’s a scenario I agree with. But most people aren’t signing collective bargaining agreements or something of that ilk. I worked for a large financial services organization. Specifically in technology. We never dealt with government agencies or external customers. Our customers were all internal to the bank. We built software for internal lines of business partners. A bunch of us had Submariners. One guy in my org, several layers below me, was rocking a yellow gold Day Date. It was lovely. You could see it a mile away shimmering under the office lights. He was a developer / programmer. I was operating at an executive level before retiring, so being a WIS myself, I always thought it was wonderful when folks in my org wore a Rolex. Yeah so clearly at your work place no issues. Other places could be different but most of time one would think it’s fine. When I work in Japan or Korea literally no issues. South east Asian it depend. Very odd sometimes it’s expected someone in a high position wears gold watches in these parts. I think context matters and op here seems sensible enough to work it out. The issue with Rolex is though wis like them so do the instagramers and show off people. Unlike a brand like grand seiko some people get weird about Rolex. Probably the same idiot people that badge or key mercs. I have to imagine a nice company in the US there would be no issues and no one would care? Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Ha, what’s the cost of living in San Jose area? Your Rolex is just a pittance comparatively. Wear and enjoy. I don’t in my office. I’m a dentist and I wear my Apple Ultra daily. Funny, it’s an $800 watch. Still a big number for average Joes. The vast majority of my patients wear Apple Watches. I dont wear my Rolex for two reasons. It’s a , somewhat , dirty, germ filled environment , with aerosol and splashing. More to the point, I dont need or want patients seeing a 15K watch on my wrist . They already thing I charge too much and unlike corporate, they know the money they pay goes straight to me. It’s just different in my mind.

I wish more people looked at it this way, however, the majority will likely equate it to "greed" or find a reason to be jealous or that you do not really deserve it. Unfortunately, most will conveniently skip over the 10-15 years the medical professional spent in school being relatively "poor."

Just to the “don’t worry about what others think” have a look at the comments section in this article. There are a lot of jealous people out there who feel the people wearing the nice watches should have been robbed… very sad times but it is what people are like.

I'm on the backend of my career, meaning I can retire whenever, so I wear what I want.
But if I were starting out at a new position, I would keep a low profile and read the room. |

I'm also an engineer. I wear what I want. I'm much more self-conscious about inadvertently banging them and getting them scratched up on various things in my fairly hands on lab environment, than what anybody else might think. No matter how careful you are, and I'm very careful, it's practically unavoidable. Have a white dial SkyD and a YM40, but those are so nice. Why expose them to this? Wearing my new Sub 126610LN daily now. Not nearly as flashy, but it's much more rugged and durable, and far less scratch prone. The new Sub already took a mild grazing the first week I wore it to my office, but it was fine.

OP - great question. Disagree with those who give a blanket “do what you want” response but perhaps affording a watch may be independent of your job.
Lots of wealthy people working who have inherited/family money and don’t “need” their jobs. A more senior person could see it as a signal that you also don’t need the money. How they act on that is hard to know. In my experience some of my direct reports (hundred millionaire+ to single/double digit billionaires) wore $100k watches to work. They didn’t earn the money to buy those watches (at least not in any logical sense. I didn’t care one bit. One of them was the hardest worker I’d ever known. Great guy, hard worker, didn’t need the job but had zero impact. Reality is you cannot predict much BUT you may be sending signals and you cannot control how those signals are initially received. In my industry (investment banking, law, trading desk) virtually everyone knows watches and values. It goes with the territory. Stands out if something is overtly flashy - like a Bluesy. I think some people take the “people don’t notice” to an extreme… people do notice but most (who are tactful) won’t call it out negatively and often also won’t mention positively either. |

I’m a mechanical engineer by training, although now I’m a business owner but when I worked as an engineer at a company with many other engineers above me I could tell you nobody cared or even noticed a nice watch.
Think of it this way, if they’re wearing cheap quartz watches or smart watches, they probably have no clue about a “nice” watch. Wear your bluesy proud! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Wearing bluesy to work
My guess is that > 95% of the population couldn’t tell the difference between these two watches from 5 feet away.

My take on it is slightly different I guess …
Although I agree with the main sentiment here, you asked the question, which means it does in some way bother you. IMHO, I’d take a break from wearing it and see how that feels. Maybe it’s a poor analogy, but it might be like going to work wearing a fashion forward pair of shoes or a new hair style. Some may notice, but most probably won’t. You sort of have to have the moxy to pull it off IMHO. What matters is what you think, and if it makes you feel apprehensive I’d take a break |

I recently wore my 15550ST Royal Oak to a company day, I'll be honest I did feel a little self concious and didn't see any other nice watches all day really. The hotel worker checking me in even asked me how much it cost, which was highly unprofessional in my opinion.
Long story short, I think I'll wear a Panerai, speedy or 1680 sub to the next day! |

I work a few hours a week as a sales assistant in a UK supermarket chain and always wear my Rolex Explorer1 (214270) or very occasionally my Omega Moonwatch and I'm pleased to say that no one gives a flying monkey about my watch or as far as I can tell even notices it.
To be fair I've had about three customers in three years who have have commented on my watches and they've all been wearing Rolex or Omega themselves. Wear it if you want but don't expect anyone to notice or of they do notice, care |

I wore a sub through most of university and then through post-graduate training. Some noticed, but I never cared.
People only care if you’re also a dick that acts pretentiously, trying to rub people’s nose in it. If you’re halfway sociable/likeable and not pretentious, wear it. Otherwise the watch might attract negative attention. If you’re a nice guy, doesn’t matter at all.
