I hear this sort of thing a lot. My AD certainly leans towards local custom but there are always exceptions and plenty of them. I haven't had issues in Europe but then again, I haven't walked into an European AD since 2019. Many variables.

It can be easy to be swayed by images and pics. Always try on what interests you to see how you really feel about it first hand. If the feeling isn't there, cross it off your list. Never buy the hype.
I think the BLRO is near perfect.

One must do some soul-searching before indulging in luxury brands - Rolex included

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FGDB22dpmwk

Who's the richest person on the planet? Even in 2023 it has been Bernard Arnault at times (LVMH group.) Image certainly sells these things.

So while I like Rolex, I wouldn't be caught dead with anything that says "Rolex" on it (Hat, shirt, umbrella, pen.... and I'm not eligible to receive their coveted Christmas chocolate box ) Douchey IMO.

I was 15 years old in 1968 when I saw my first Rolex pepsi GMT and it ignited a fire in me I've never been able to put out. I didn't know anything about Rolex but I knew one day I would own one of these beautiful watches, and ten years later I purchased a 1675 and wore it for decades.

So for me it was and still is the watch, not hype. I'm a watchmaker and get to see every piece and part that makes up these timepieces and they are pretty incredible.

I remember trying on the Daytona SS back in 2018. It look way smaller and than I imagined but still wants it even after 5 yrs of wait…

If business is well, I’ll just get the YG Daytona and call it a day.

As a name I would say Rolex is superior globally. I don’t think there is a single human being on this earth who hasn’t heard of Rolex even in the most remote of areas. Harley Davidson although very popular is not as well known in third world countries.

The name means a lot, but also means quality for many.

I also go off of market value - it is only worth what someone will pay for it. If a Rolex was $10,000 but instantly falls in value to $3000 after buying it, then that is not a good sign you are using your money wisely and are overpaying.

Definitely best to try on in person if possible, as you never know until you’re wearing it. Also, not every watch is for every person…

So true. I had lusted after the new Pepsi on jubilee for ages until I finally got to try one on. I was genuinely disappointed with the feel of it and couldn’t wait to put my Sub back on. Should have seen the SA’s face when my missus said that it looked like a kids watch!

Still adore looking at them in pictures though - just shows.

I felt the same way about the Pepsi on oyster. I was I. Vegas for a conference and the Aria AD had one on display.

I really want to check out a five series GMT, I think I would really like them.

I literally had the same exact experience with my wife! Sub all the way.

“Kids watch”

It all depends on the wrist but I would agree if I were shopping for myself. A bit sad as I love the look of the GMTs, Day-Dates, etc. Just not on myself.

I almost don’t enjoy looking at new Rolexes as there isn’t a one that I am able to get past my hand, let along latch on my wrist, to try on. It’s almost like car shopping and you cannot sit in it before you agree to purchase it.

There needs to be more Rolexes offered in 42+ mm.

I finally got to try the Pepsi on Jubliee and then tried on a Sub date, the sub in the 21 width oyster felt so much better to me.

I've tried on the watch you're talking about and I honestly think the opposite. I think it's awesome and a fair price (at retail).

I usually chase the watch, but in the few instances, both gold, I chased the image. Those didn't last too long in the collection.

I have made the mistake of buying the "idea" of a particular watch rather than considering how it fits into my collection and my life. A particular watch is great based on its own merit. However, when one adds particulars to their daily life, other watches in their collection, that can quickly change.

The watch. Although the Submariner has a carefully cultivated image it's also the real deal. Been there done that kind of watch. Wanted one since I was a kid and finally made it happen 5 years ago. Not a day goes by when I don't enjoy owning it.

Yep I did the same earlier this week! Been wearing a Sub Date for over a year and I couldn’t believe how narrow the jubilee felt. Honestly it felt like jewelry compared to the Sub.
