My first Rolex... in love already!

Hi all,

Hope you're all well. This is my first post as I've now realised one of my "to do before I'm 30" dreams and bought myself a nice watch.

It's a Rolex Oysterdate, 1966 I believe, paid £1250 which I'm thinking now is maybe a little over the odds... but I know I'm going to get so much pleasure just looking at it I don't care. And being from the 60's it must have a story to tell which I also really like, makes me think of my grandad which is cool.

Look forward to exploring the forums for info!

Kind regards
James

Hi all,

I've now received my watch and have a question about the winding of it - how many turns approx. do I need to make, or should I keep turning until it won't turn anymore although I'm guessing this isn't what I should do.

Kind regards
james

Hi James,
Welcome to TRF and congrats on your first Rolex. Enjoy!! I make about 40 full turns but I was told that there is a safety mechanism that will not allow to over wind. Maybe some of the experts can chime in.

Hi

We're going to have a meet in the next month or so, still working on the dates and location since we're spread out all over the Bay Area, so keep checking this thread.

I am also someone who really likes to learn about Rolex watches, but I only learn to satisfy my passion for knowledge about watches, I don't have enough money to buy these expensive watches. As far as I know, vintage Rolex watches, especially those from the 1960s, are highly collectible and can command higher prices. While £1250 may seem like a significant investment, it's important to consider the historical value and personal connection you have to the watch.
