Submariner Question
Is the black Submariner available in pretty high numbers and easy to get?

I just received mine. I waited 17 months, but I suspect that’s longer than most waits. I opted to use a one-off, family owned AD that’s the only game in town. Plus, I had zero buy history. With all those factors I expected a wait, but I wouldn’t change a thing. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

Many many thousands made each years it's a very popular watch ever since it's launch way back in the 1950s, over the decades there must be millions of them in this world and compared to some Rolex watch more easy to get.

I would think not. The demand is very strong for these models. The lines are long. Six months would be very good timing.

Yes and Yes.
Look around, most people have a black Submariner date. That being said, the Submariner "No Date" is much less common. |

So, if I'm lucky enough to get a SS Sub, No Date preferred, from an AD, is MSRP the price expected or are ADs price gouging? Seeing used prices in the grey market over MSRP, I'm OK paying MSRP! I'm hoping to visit a Chicagoland AD in the near future to put my name on a list! Also, my son and I are heading to Phoenix/Mesa in March for Cactus League for Chicago Cubs ball games, so is there an AD at the Phoenix airport?

I spoke to an AD in June, '22 about getting the 124060. I was told about 4 months, but got the call after 7 months. Should not be too difficult to get one from an AD.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'll focus here in the Chicagoland area for a Sub! Hoping for warm weather next month in Phoenix/Mesa, but any place is better than here during the winter months!

I am in Chicago. With a moderate purchase history, I am on 10 months. Told 12+ months. With no history, you might want to just go grey with prices coming down.

Good point! I'm not in a rush, but hearing of some of these success stories on the forum, that gets me motivated to put my name on an AD list!

If you aren’t in a rush and have realistic expectations, there is no risk to asking an AD for the watch. Figuring out that allocation game is impossible. You could be surprised.

I’ve waited longer for a pair of Ravello long wings from Alden. Like, over 5 years with lots of spend history. For a pair of shoes! Got put on the list last May and was told it could take up to a year. Ravello is a difficult shade and the shell needs to be nearly flawless. Fortunately I am a patient guy. And frankly the last thing I need is another pair of Aldens!

It's easier to get from AD since late 2023.

High numbers - yes. Easy to get - depends on your AD.

You can gauge your chances at your local AD if not just go grey or maybe go vintage

Both the 11 and 12 Series SS Submariners were/are manufactured in what appears to be significant numbers. While the production numbers are high so is the demand. The AD games are endless and the time and patience required does not justify itself for the watch. Prices have softened in the secondary market and several of our Trusted Sellers have watches that are now priced just a bit over regular msrp and tax. Check out the big Trusted Sellers websites and find the watch you are interested in and get on the phone and have a respectful conversation and ask for a discount, usually a few hundred dollars. Pay and have the watch on your wrist tomorrow by lunch. Save yourself a lot of time and effort and just buy it from the Trusted Sellers. Good luck and keep us posted.
