Went to a Tourneau on LI with my BFF. At the Rolex AD, inquired about a 124270 and was treated as if I shouldn’t have even walked into the boutique. Went over to the Breitling boutique, same Tourneau, and it was a totally different experience. My bud wants a Breitling now because of the way we were treated at the Rolex AD.

Incorrect.

I don’t understand!

OP, I’m sorry some fellow members were so hard on you. I knew from the start, that you were just a guy, who wanted a Daytona. Good luck in your quest to obtain one. Your best bet is the grey market. Let us know, when you find one, and please post some pics, when you do.

Anyway, welcome to the forum. You will no doubt be an inspiring contributor.
What? What’s wrong with you? I talked about my experience so far and asked a few questions and got answers from many people all of which made sense and clarified a few things for me. It’s as simple as that. I didn’t ask and get mad at anything except for the dopes that started calling me a troll. The decent people told me what I wanted to know. You can’t see that? That somehow got past you? Can you even read?

And no I didn’t make any mistakes coming here. I got exactly what I was looking for. I have no clue what you’re talking about and I doubt anyone else reading this does either.

And lastly, I’ll be an inspiring contributor? What’s wrong with you? Seriously. All you’ve contributed is a bunch of dumb ass comments and everyone except for you can see that.

Any reason you’re in attack mode with all the wise ass comments? Is this how you communicate with people? Especially new people that haven’t provoked you in any way? Dumb accusations followed by sad attempts at witty remarks? That’s your thing? Enough already. Let it go.

Hey Kat, thanks for all your insight. It’s much appreciated! And yeah, I am just a guy looking for a Rolex. I’m not a government secret agent or something trying to infiltrate this highly secretive Rolex Forum, as some would have you think. Lol. Unreal.

Yeah some of the members are pretty weird. Accusing and saying dumb things for no reason. What’s that all about? Are those just the typical problem people that every forum and group has that just happened to find me on my first visit here? The people that are basically always trying to pick a fight for some reason? I’ll never understand those people.

But anyway, yeah I’m not sure it’s gonna happen. Not sure if I really wanna drop 32k on a watch. I was prepared to go 15k but 32 is really pushing it and that’s more or less the number I’ve been seeing for an unworn Daytona. I gotta think about it more. In the meantime I’m looking at other options just to see if there’s anything I love as much as the Daytona. What’s crazy is I started looking at every other brand and came across something that kinda blew my mind…the Hublot Meca-10 black magic. I’ve never seen anything quite like it. It’s huge at 45mm and seems a bit overpriced but what a bad ass looking watch! Lol.

Yep I know that store in Roosevelt Filed mall. And yeah, I walked in there as well and was treated the same way.

Dyfilms, there are watches out there at dealers. But there is little chance of walking in and buying a rare model. The dealer knows too many existing clients who want those. I think the waiting list is an illusion as well. I’m not saying there are not a lot of people for one model or another, but I don’t think dealers have waiting lists like restaurants that say “GMT,” “DAYTONA”, and whatever. I think a lot is in their heads, and in the moment.

Here is an example of how things work, in my experience. I texted my dealer that I was going to a wedding, and asked what he had coming in that might be interesting. The answer was, he had a President, several two tone Datejusts, and a two tone Daytona with a black diamond dial. No stainless. But he has that Daytona - a nicer watch than the stainless models - for $5k more than stainless, but still $9k less than you will pay for stainless on the grey market. It’s not a common watch, but is more common than the stainless ones. Rolex seems to be shifting more of their production to two tone and precious metals.

That watch is $31-35 on Chronograph today, $21.5 from Rolex. There is no way I’d buy a grey stainless piece over that. In addition to price, I know for sure it’s the real thing, no tricks, and I like knowing I got most of my Rolex watches new. Just because, I guess. It’s not rational. But I still want a new stainless model, and it sounds like you do too. That said, it’s not like I suffer wearing a two tone model like that and one day a stainless model will come in too. It’s hard to imagine a situation where I’d lose if I wanted to sell it later, thought I doubt I would.

Yeah, I got the same vibe. I was much the same when I decided I wanted a Rolex Submariner. Didn't do a ton of research but knew what they cost. I had wanted a sub since I was a kid and finally felt in the financial place to get one. I did know that if I ended up not liking it I could resell it for around what I paid for it.

The big day arrived (around 5 years ago) and my GF and I went to an AD in the Bay Area. We looked around for awhile and when the SA approached I said something like, "I'm interested in a Submariner. I'd like to check out a few different models and configurations." The SA could barely contain their laughter and looked at me like I had a horn growing out of my forehead. I don't remember what they said (other than it was impossible to obtain) but I remember feeling somewhat discouraged and a bit humiliated.

Started looking around the internet for good information and found this place. And found a sub through a secondary dealer and was treated very well through the entire process.

Welcome to TRF.
