Nope, I'm going to wait until it comes to Best Buy so I can get my reward points.

Pre-ordered the family pack (I have 3 MacBooks)

Let's hope it cures the "bloat" OS X 10.5.x has suffered.

Well if it means that my hardware will now have to be upgraded (because of more resource intensive software) I'm not going to be very happy.

I'll probably upgrade, but I'll check it out first to see what the benefits are overall.

Awww...I just purchased a iMac over the weekend and didn't realised there is new version of the operating system emerging soon.

I'm noob to Macs, is this going to be a better OS than the existing one?

Same. Actually the family pack is five licenses for $49 vs a single license for $29 here in the US. I read good things about it. It's not a new feature laden update, but rather a smaller, tighter set of code. You should not need to upgrade hardware to use it. Unlike MS software, this should make your existing hardware run snappier.

If you just bought a new Mac you're getting the same layout and nearly the same features and can upgrade for $10 (S&H fee only) so don't worry.

I am looking forward to Snow Leopard because I hope it fixes my computer problem. My Mac was bought in Jan. 2008 and has been running flawlessly until the Safari 4.0 came out last month. Now my computer slows down and goes into loading mode for 10 seconds or longer to load programs and surf the internet. All the Tech support can tell me is to reload my rescue disks and not load the upgraded Safari 4.0. It took me 4 1/2 hours to reload plus the updates and then was told that Safari 4.02 would fix this and it didn't so I'm back to square one!!!

I'll get it in October when I head back to the US. I'm running 10.4.11 now in a Macbook Pro, and it runs great. I had a little problem when I downloaded the last security update, but I reloaded the system and now things work good.

I am, however, disappointed in the internal Superdrive. It's a piece of crap, so hopefully the new OS will correct some of it's issues. I'm not holding my breath, but we'll see. Having had numerous Mac's over the years, this one runs the best. I hope Snow Leopard will improve that!

I've got a few buddies (I'm in IT) who have been running beta versions of 10.6 and they report good things to me. 10.5.x has been pretty good - but you can feel the "bloat" from all the features.

10.6 aka "Snow Leopard" is a re-write of 10.x with leaner code and true 64-bit native applications. What this means for us is faster boot times, render times, and load times. Hopefully stability will improve too (with third party apps).

I will honestly say from experience Tiger 10.4.11 is by far the most stable on any mac powerpc and intel. However, Tiger runs better on those ibooks and powerbooks and leopard runs fine on intel macs. By the way, snow leopard is intel only macs.

Read the press release above. If you bought a Mac lately you just pay shipping and handling ($9.95).

I'm totally getting it. It'll be a great companion to my new MacBook Air.

Thanks Frostie, I needed a new avatar.
I just hope the new version lives up to the AppleSpin of it being a better system (faster on my old Mac Mini)
