I guess if resale is a sticking point maybe not.
The Alti is about the same as the sub on the grey market with downward trends for both but just more dramatic for the Sub. We all know where their MSRP lie

Totally agree about the dope piece of horology part. That's why I am ambivalent!

100% no.

My opinion is you'd be trading arguably the best watch in the dive watch category and an absolute icon, for a watch that wouldn't even make my top 10 of dress watches.

And I’m on the bandwagon. No way

Completely different types of watches but for the $12-$15k used dress watch price point I think there are many better choices for a dress piece than an Altiplano. To each their own though.
I guess the context is that already have the Lange One, and 5146R, so wanted something quirky lol. Otherwise, Calatrava, Patrimony or Saxonia Thin any day. Would love a Chronometre bleu if that was in the price range lol

No I wouldn't. And not because of the brand as much as the dial doesn't speak to me.

If it were a Lange 1, then yes indeed.

If I ever can get a Moonphase Lumen I'm doing it.

Had to look this “haute horology” up on the interwebs.

To each their own, I guess.

I wouldn't, but I would upgrade to the 12 series Sub. It's superior in basically every way in my opinion and may make you like the Submariner better to not think these thoughts!

I definitely would not consider it. If you really don't like your sub, never wear it etc. I could understand you wanting to move it on.

But if you like your sub but just looking for options to fund the alti, I would say no. You'll regret getting rid of your sub. IMHO, subs become a part of you over time. Even with a large collection, a sub is a pillar that you've got to have in your collection.

I bought my 14040m new and have had it 17 years, I will never sell it and it would be the only watch in my collection if I was forced to have only one.

I would not. The Submariner is a lifetime work horse of a watch. Now add the Piaget to a two watch collection that includes the Submariner, different story and a definite maybe.

Really appreciate the thought, it really is a versatile watch. Glad to hear you love your 14040m, may you wear it in health for years to come

Good point. I'm glad some people on this forum can still agree with me that the Piaget is still a pretty watch haha

They seem like such different watches that I wouldn't consider this a comparable trade. I personally don't find the Piaget compelling enough to trade a Rolex (of any kind) for it
