Apologies if this thread is slightly too old to bump, but I was searching for relevant posts, and wanted to ask those of you with much more experience.

I'm not particularly experienced with Submariners, but I've been offered this particular example in a country I'm visiting next month. I'm slightly dubious of the very fair price and the fact that I've seen some 'superclone' versions online, made to look aged. I've said I will take it to get authenticated prior to parting with cash, but I know some of you here will be able to immediately identify any little inconsistencies.

These are the photos I have so far until I visit in person:

Never too old (usually) to revisit an old post if one can not find information definitive info on something somewhat particular.
This piece you're referring to seems authentic to me, based on the pics you posted, but thats my view..I may be rather inexperienced in these specifics,,,- so I can only defer to those more knowledgeable in this .
Still, looks kinda good to me..?!?

Thanks, Thomas. Sadly, the bezel and bracelet are replacements. I'd have to get it inspected to find out if anything else is, but I won't bother with it for the price. Shame, as it's nice looking.

If the rest of this 1680 reference is original, it would not be too difficult to bring it back
to close to " as issued." It is a nice watch.

That's my train of thought..
The bezel certainly looks acceptable to the normals.. The Bracelet I'm not sure about as far as being spec. But so many ppl have modified originals to their own tastes. You could make this 'your own'... - just sayin'

Interesting, true. I guess it's not like I intend to buy it as an 'investment'. I want to wear it and enjoy it, so having it as my own unique piece could work. I'm going to view it in a few days so I can find out more about it then. Perhaps I can just wear it on a strap as my field watch.

can't really see the pictures...they have watermark or whatever so you can't reprint....it's just pictures of watches...a waste of time...seriously...it's a watch...

‘85 16800 Sub advice on repairs

First time poster. I’m Original owner and wearer of date Sub which is due for some maintenance. I like it being vintage but after 35+ years of daily use the oyster bracelet stretched too much being risky to wear so replaced a few years ago with Everest band. The dial is like to keep as is and dials. But the crystal and bezel have seen better days. Thoughts ?

Maybe post it in the vintage section you might get a better response.
For me they look great for being used I’d just get it serviced and get the bracelet looked at

Hello and good evening

Hope this question is ok

I have this 16800 with glossy dial that has turned into a bit of matte look and with heavy patina (Pumpkin like)

What makes the dial turn matte and what gives this strong patina to plots and hands? Could it be moisture or something else.

See pictures - and does every thing on the dial looks fine?

Thanks for your knowledge, experince and comments👏
