Gold movements

FP Journe is probably the most well known brand with solid gold movements, but are there any other brands / watches that have done the same?

VC has had a gorgeous one in their catalog for a long time, not sure if it's still in production

The frost versions of the MB&F LM101 have gold movements.

Roger Smith, Lang & Heyne, some Patek, some Voutilainen, some Romain Gauthier, some Breguet, some Piaget, and some Ludovic Ballouard.

The gold is one thing

The hand engraved artwork is something else :-)

All of these, I believe, are plated or frosted gold (a thin layer on the surface), not solid gold.

This is true of everyone's comments, except mine.

The VC movement I mentioned is solid gold. That's the only example that came immediately to mind apart from the well-known one of FPJ. FPJ at one point had a solid gold dial, silvered, with the numerals embossed and then polished down to expose the rose gold. A watch such as this, fitted with FPJ's excellent solid rose gold bracelet, would be almost entirely gold, from bracelet to case to movement to dial. I have the watch but chose not to get the bracelet...

Solid gold escapement bridges are available from RGM as an option, but I don't believe they have done a watch with the whole movement in solid gold. Plated gold is available, of course.

For clarity, the Breguet movement pictured in another post, while beautiful, is not solid gold.

The movement is the very vintage and classic Cal 1003, I believe, with plates and bridges in a yellow gold alloy.

It was last in Les Historique 1955

Apols you are absolutely right - I miss the word "solid" in OP's post

Wow, that VC is some real watch goodness right there. I knew FP Journe was unique but I didn't know solid gold movements were THAT unique!

Related question: I know that Lange uses solid gold for the "moons" on their moonphase pieces. What other brands use solid gold throughout their lineup?

And to think that the early brass movement FPJs are being sold at sky high price is counter intuitive.

Wow, those are both beautiful! I really like the idea of having movement components in addition to the rotor (if automatic).

Please keep the pictures coming!

Oops, guilty as well.

At least Kari did a beautiful job on the finishing of the LM101

Reverso Septantieme (70th anniversary) limited edition with caliber 879 in solid 18K rose and white gold comes to mind.

In more recent news, the new Parmigiani Fleurier Toric Petite Seconde indeed has a solid 18k movement, how cool!

Kudos to PF!

Love this watch. May have to wait for the inevitable revolution LE in humble metal. Beautifully executed dial on it.
