Calmer heads prevail I did indeed have a reaction to the initial pictures and unexpected change. But seeing live pictures has been winning me over. Someone else summarized it perfectly by describing the old gen as more alluring, while the new gen is more gorgeous.

Ummmm. I like the older 15407 better than the new version. I feel the DB is now lost and added an extra layer of intricately connected color and metal types made the dial pop

NOW the new version blends together and loses the depth of the 15407 that made that dial amazing.

Are we sure these are the new versions we have been waiting for and not a farewell tour of the current movement? I heard the new openworked might get pushed to next year, so a July release seems odd to me.

Based on the current pics I’ve seen, I prefer all 3 of the old versions to the new lineup. The missing bridge contrast makes a bit difference I think.

They’re all stunning. I’m excited to see real pictures of the new ceramic and yellow gold.

Having now seen them all in the flesh I would only consider the yellow gold version and feel the original steel and ceramic versions are much nicer in my view than the new ones in those materials. Reason: the gold movements are too uniform (ie monotone) and as a result look “flat” and slightly lack the visual depth of the anthracite versions.

Just my view of course.

I can see what you mean here Roger, but I'd still love to see both "old" and "new" (together if possible) before deciding.

Will you go for the Yellow Gold one?

No I won’t Gareth I already have the original steel and the frosted white gold versions so don’t want or need a third. I am not a huge YG fan but of the three new ones it is my preferred model for the aforementioned reason.

I’m still processing the visual effect of each piece, but it just occurred to me: isn’t the dial of the yellow gold essentially the same as the 15305 openwork?

The hands on the current YG version is brighter, but the remainder is very very close. Again, just going on picture comparisons for now.

Understood Roger.

Your frosted White gold must be incredible.

Very cool comparison vid, thank you.
Not like I'm ever going to be offered one but having seen the videos I prefer the older ones.

The new ones are of course nice but I think the rose gold is way too blingy and screams too much "look I have an AP"!!! Of course I assume for a certain clientele that's part of the appeal.

Nothing stealthy about it at all. Now if rose gold would be switched out with sand gold that may be a different story...

I’m with you on that! I like the relatively lowkey nature and aesthetics of the prior 15407/15416. The new SS is the nicest one IMO but it’s pretty loud for me with all the gold OW components.

It's entertaining for me to see the contrast on Ceramic piece. With limited 150 pcs, they are definitely more difficult to get than the current 15416ce.

Totally different watches (or at least as different as they could possibly be with the same case and same basic movement architecture).

It appears that their use of gold does seem to accentuate the overall openworked architecture. Admittedly, in the metal the previous anthracite versions demonstrate the openworkings nicely, so I am curious to see what the gold effect is IRL compared to my impression from pictures.

Having seen them I would say the opposite.

May I ask whether AP is discontinuing existing 15407OR or it will continue to produce? Thanks

This looks like a farewell batch to get rid of the remaining movements. We’ll probably see the new architecture for the 150th.

I was told that the prior models are discontinued.

Personally I love the bridge in the old model and the overall look is stunning. The new gold dial looks nice but just from the picture there may be not enough of depth and contrast. And that is why I like 15407 more than the 39mm jumbo Openwork.

Agree, the gold bridge against the dark grey dial is sublime, IMO it makes the watch

Agree on both fronts. I turned down the 16204 for this exact reason. I think the original 15407 movement is perfection :)

Utterly sickening these are already on the grey market, only a few weeks after release.
