It's white gold Daytona, so it's inherently beautiful, but make sure you see this watch in person before you commit. It's not for everyone. The blue is more of a muted denim blue. In bright light it pops a little, but in most lighting conditions, I personally found it underwhelming.

I had a chance to buy one of them at retail from my AD when it was first released, and I passed.

It is a more muted blue for sure, not sunburst like the YG blue Sub. That muted blue is actually one of the reasons I love it. Of course, this is subjective.

I think it’s stunning.

Damn, this thread is making me want one and I’m not even two months from my last incoming….must remove TRF bookmarks….

Hahaha!! Mine! Mine! Gimme! Gimme! The blue absolutely makes this one. I have the blue dial YM and the blue Thunderbird. This will complete my blue trifecta, when I am fortunate enough to receive it.

I wear it in rotation with my other (sport-diver) watches during the weekend so it may be a few weeks to a coupe months before it gets worn again. During the week, it’s almost 100% dress watches in the office.

The blue dial 116509 in my opinion is one of the best blue dials offered from Rolex. Wish they offered this in SS. The WG is a bit heavy…

In that respect, if you are going to pay out for a watch like this, the natural tendency for a lot of people is to lean towards something that shows its value e.g. YG, but that is why I like WG and this. I can wear it in more places, more often it seems.

Great watch, not much if anything to dislike. And has a dial with multiple personalities, which I love in all watches.
Totally agree with every point you make. I cannot wait to get this watch, later this year!

If it’s the same one I see at that price, it does not come with papers, aka original warranty card. Only box. FYI

I bought my 116509 in 2018, and it's been largely my daily since. I struggled mightily choosing between the steel dial and the blue, and finally went with the steel. No regrets, but that blue sure is stunning.

A beautiful dial for sure, just not my favorite as far as Daytonas go.

The 116509 is absolutely spectacular! I acquired this piece last year and it has become my daily wearer, displacing a Patek 5170G that I used to daily wear and now save for more formal occasions.

The blue dial is stunning. The metal bezel gives it a more formal/dressy look vs. the ceramic bezel. The tone of he WG is warm and special vs. steel. The weight of the WG is a huge positive in my view. It feels like a more substantial, higher quality piece than the steel version.

In terms of deciding between the two, it really depends on your ability to wear a precious metal watch with care. I have trained myself to protect my watches, and to date I haven’t scratched or dinged the Daytona or the Patek (and I have worn the latter for 4+ years). If you want/need a watch to wear and forget about, get the steel. If you know how to reasonably care for a watch, the 116509 is a no brainer. It’s amazing.

I'm really considering of trading my pepsi + kermit + cash for one.. Or, just adding without the trade sometime this year. Secondary prices seem very reasonable now.

Depending on the cash amount, I’d probably do that.

Only caveat, may want to wait until W&W to see if anything happens to that Pepsi. Assuming you’re talking about the current reference.

Wow! The Blue Dial Daytona is probably my favorite of all the Daytona variants that I have seen so far!

I love my 116509, (2021) , the dial is incredible when in direct sunlight. The watch is quite hefty when compared to my 116520 (APH) which is expected. Definitely a stealth wealth watch

Considering the fuss made about blue dials, I'm surprised this one doesn't get more appreciation, but I know that is totally subjective and a dial doesn't make a watch.

I wear it in fairly regular rotation with other stuff. It flies well under the radar so I can enjoy it much more than its YG or RG counterpart.

The condition looks spotless for having it for 5 years.

Any trouble with bezel scratches?

I’m fortunate enough to have the WG blue dial Daytona and whilst initially it’s heavy to wear compared to my other Daytona you soon get used to it. The dial is direct sunlight is awesome. Under rated watch

No trouble at all. This and some others I have with the PM bezel, all holding up just fine.

It is worn in rotation so this obviously helps with condition.

But even so, just look at Paul Newmans actual Daytona, its 1 big scratch and it looks fantastic.
