The “can I wear my” threads seem about as useful as “do these jeans make me look fat” threads.

If someone said "no, not safe" would you leave it home? If you answer yes, then LEAVE IT HOME.

If you have to ask then you´re obviously worried, so for your peace of mind just leave your Rolexes at home. What to take with you? The Casio G-Shock is your friend here. Cheap as chips and virtually indestructible. Nobody steals them. Enjoy your trip!

I have worn a Rolex whilst visiting/working in all four countries listed by the OP. Never gave my watch a second thought and had no issues. Enjoy your travels.

Not forgotten. But statistically an improbable incident. It is true my training gives me added protection. In any case, consistency is boring!!
Thanks. |

These questions are pointless. Here is the answer:
You could have a problem in any city in any country on this planet. I don't care who you are, how strong you think you are, what training you have, how discrete you think you are being, or how prepared you think you are. To summarize: Sh** Happens! I do hope it never happens to any of you or your families. |

I’ve worn mine in Italy, Switzerland and Germany in the last year and all fine. Not been to Poland. The only place that seemed a bit questionable was Milan which surprised me but it was nothing to do with the watch. I felt like they would steal my shoes, jacket, anything.
Seriously - long sleeved t-shirt or shirt. People don’t try and steal what they can’t see. Just don’t take photos of your watch in front of tourist attractions… |

I'm leaving tomorrow night for all those places except Poland. I haven't been to Poland since 2018, but I saw no sketchy stuff then and was never worried. I'll be wearing my BLRO. Catch me if you can.

Agree with insurance add on. I have my watches on my scheduled property under home owners. If I ever loose a watch, misplace it or it’s stolen I get the state value.
Great peace of mind and I pay little amount. It’s like 80 dollars a year for a DateJust I just added for 13589.00 coverage

The "just add insurance and risk it" argument does not make sense when it comes to this scenario.
We insure things that are necessary in the conduct of our daily lives, like cars, houses, our own health, etc. It's a last resort and only recovers the cost aspect of the loss. Even with that we tend to try to minimize risk by driving defensively, maintaining our homes, and practicing a healthy lifestyle. To intentionally wear an expensive watch that is completely not a necessity to places that have inherently higher risk on account of insurance is, IMO, irrational. It's akin to intentionally going down the path of an unhealthy lifestyle and diet, only on account of "I have health insurance when I become sick." Your decision comes down to this: do benefits outweigh costs by taking the risk? If the answer is no or uncertain, do not choose the unnecessary risk, insured or otherwise. |

Overseas is one of the most dangerous places in the world. I wouldn’t do it.

Just don't be dumb about it. Should be ok. That said, I'm not the guy who likes "attention" under any circumstances. Probably best to just leave at home.

No Issue
I bought my DJ41 in December 2023. Since then, I have been to Japan (two weeks) Mongolia (13 days) through Korea, Malaysia twice ( 24 days and 28 days) and Singapore once (overnight).
When enroute, my DJ is in a leather travel case in my backpack. No issues with customs anywhere so far. When I arrive, my travel watch ( A citizen Pro-Master Blue Angel titanium) goes in the travel case and into the room safe. My Rolex goes on my wrist during the day, and on my night stand during the evening when asleep. I'm 70 yrs old, so I'm not going to places i don't belong, but I go to restaurants, pubs, shopping, to work (I'm a Safety Inspector) and so forth. Oh, I'm also 6'1", 300 lbs., and have a couple not so discrete tats. So, no one usually bothers me anyway. Be aware, don't go where you should not go, and have fun. Life is too short to keep looking over your shoulder, |

I think that the majority of these threads ask the wrong questions.
If you're traveling to Mogadishu, Somalia or similar, then I get it, but almost all of these threads ask about first world cities and countries. The better questions to ask when traveling to a civilized locations are things like: Do you go to the seedy parts of town, drink until you're blind drunk, and get into brawls? Do you go sightseeing in dark alleys? Do you have good situational awareness? Do you pay attention to your surroundings? Do you manage your contact with strangers appropriately? Do you deal with unsavory characters? Take candy from strangers? Climb into vans with circus clowns? Are you adequately fit to handle yourself against nominal threats? Most thieves don't want attention or disturbances but instead prefer to sneak away unnoticed and unchallenged. Are you capable of dealing with confrontations? Are you comfortable with saying "No" to people? Are you sufficiently sentient that you don't get lost, placing you in higher risk environments or situations? Do you like to draw attention to yourself (e.g. the ugly American?), flash evidence of wealth including your watch, or are you avoidably boastful in public? What about your travel partners? Does your wife dress and wear jewelry like she's going to the Met or Grand Opera? Finally, can you decide between the value of an object and the value of safety? I've worn my Rolex Sub all over the world and the US for twenty years, admittedly sometimes like a 'drunken sailor' and have never been close to risking losing it. This includes some places where a person might be well advised to be careful about high crime - specifically pretty much every major city in the US (I won't name specific cities so as not to offend anyone). But I pay attention. That alone is the safe traveling equivalent of not outrunning the bear, but only having to outrun the slow guys in the group. |
