Only businesses in Australia are required to charge GST for sales in Australia, BUT you would likely be up for Import Duty (not GST if the seller was outside of Australia).. Rules can be a bit confusing. Of course many people take the risk of not declaring, but then the penalties if caught would far outweigh any savings.
