Polish or new bezel
Bought a submariner with significant scratches to the bezel and bracelet.
The bracelet will likely polish up. Should I polish it if I get a new bezel? The bezel has deep scratches. If I trade the watch in the future should I get a new bezel first? Or is it as broad as long? My thoughts are “ a used genuine bezel costs £850. But a dealer would likely deduct £1,300 for the damage”. |

I’d just wear it for awhile and see how much it bothers you. It would not bother me that much on that reference.

I’d like to see the rest of the watch. Looks like it needs a good cleaning

Pic of the face, please, so we can see the bezel condition. Maybe clean it with Dawn and warm water first, then take pics.

Market price is market price and based on overall condition, good, excellent, etc.
It isn't market price minus a scratch here and a dent there. A dealer would deduct 1,300 to preserve a profit, not because of a few scratches - you don't get market at a Dealer. Everybody's watch gets a few scratches or dents.

I’m pro capitalist. So fully appreciate the dealers would need a margin. But if I was a dealer I would think “ahh this needs a new bezel. The bezel will cost me £800. So I will offer the seller £1,300 sell than I was going to offer him” So had I purchased by own Bezel for £800 I may save myself £500. I think. |

The watch is all beat up, unless you are going to sell it, Id leave it as is and wear it without fear of more damage.

don't typically comment on these types of threads, but damn - those bezel scratches are gnarly. Wonder what the story is there...

That watch does definitely have some wear on it. for what it's worth for me I would wear it for a while as is see what I think of it give it a month or two on the wrist unless you trade your watches back and forth. ? Then I would still just keep it as is and maybe give it 4 months wearing an off and on you may just get used to it and it not be a problem. the first thing I would do if anything would be to send it in for a service and let Rolex take care of whatever they feel needs to be done. I think that would be money well spent.

New bezel, polishing will take away to much material. Laserwelding is an option, but probably just as expensive as a new bezel I think.

Its not the bezel but the bezel ring that is damaged, and its very strange atypical damage at that.

Looks like my wife wore it for a month or two.
I'd just leave it and keep wearing it.

Just wear and enjoy .. it’s a great watch, it’s not new, has battle scars and memories all scratched in …

Looks like a dog chewed it.
My dog got a hold of mine while we were playing. Not as bad as that however. |

The watch is beat up, I would just wear it as a daily beater with no worries...

Well, at least you won't need to worry if you bash it about haha
That's pretty rough though, would probably bother me I'll be honest. I know everyone will say ahhh live with it, I just probably couldn't, knowing it wasn't a mark I made... if it was me that did it, that would be a different story. |

Depending what you paid for it I don't think it's that bad. I literally can't focus that closely on my bezel... My criteria is what I can see when I check the time, which is usually around 18 inches from the watch.

Looks like you need some laser welding in quite a few places. Should be able to get the watch looking great!

Just wear as is and think about getting everything done when time to sell or service. It would look odd with a polished bracelet and new bezel ring and no. Polished head.

I’d just wear it with the damage it shows. At the end of the day you were happy enough to buy it in that condition so for me it can be worn without worrying about getting it scratched up even more than it currently is. Enjoy it for what it is.

OP, did you buy the watch with the intent to sell it or did you buy it as is to wear it? If it’s the latter then carry on wearing it and worry about resale later. Guaranteed any repairs you do now will also get dinged so run it and enjoy it for what it is, as previously said.

I think it looks fine as is, I wouldn’t stress over it.

I would wear the watch for what it is and see how you go. If you decide to refreshen it up with a new bezel I think you want to consider having the entire watch case and bracelet ‘polished’ to match. It might look odd with new and worn components together.
