Think it looks nice and for 70.00 how could you go wrong? Even if it sucks you get to find out for only 70.00 ,or it may be a real gem in the rough..
Man the have alot of homage's i wonder if they are junk or not??? |

Its just my personal opinion but Alpha's are junk, here's a really nice MilSub Homage by Bill Yao at MKII
And here is my own Sandoz Swiss coversion using MKII parts

Why not just get a Seiko 007? It homages to nothing but itself and could be had for $100 off the bay.

That's a nice homage as well, but with regards to the Alphas, I like mine. It's been a solid watch for the price and keeps great time.

Yeah but I don't have a problem with that, and as cliche as it is, its still totally true, you get what you pay for, JMHO
Fair enough, "junk" is a strong word and maybe unfair, again its JMHO

Thank you all for your opinions. I am looking for a clean non-date design, all the Seiko seem to have a date, and the MKII are a bit pricey for a beater. The disclaimer on the Alpha's "water resistance" is a bit scary...so I think I will skip on this.

Dude, that is not cool. We don't discuss fakes here at all.

If you want to continue a discussion of fakes, do so on another forum. We do not countenance those suggestions here.
Are we clear about that? And that is not the best way to introduce yourself to TRF.

All i was suggesting was that if you want something that is going to give the impression of a different watch, why not go the whole hog and get something that looks exactly like the other watch and not some "hommage" do people seriously think "oh look, there's a hommage to a Rolex" when they see something that looks like a rolex? I'd put money on them thinking "oh, there's a Rolex" if a person is to wear something that apes another watch, why not do it properly? |

Doesn't scare me. If you look, I'm fairly sure most watches aren't ISO2281 or ISO6425 tested- that's where Seiko gets their "Diver's 200M" from while others just give a number.

Second, they (Rolex) do not produce these watches anymore. Hence an homage watch is a great way to get something that looks similar to, but in no way violates any laws protecting Rolex (or any other brand for that matter). Here is the definition of homage: noun - 1) a public show of respect or honour towards someone or something; 2) expression of high regard; 3) something that shows respect or attests to the worth or influence of another. Therefore and homage watch is paying respect to the influences that it has used, without impeding on the territory of the brand it is supposed to pay homage to. It doesn't matter what people think about the watch. If they look at it, they'll see it's not an actual Rolex. If they see it from across the room, they won't be able to tell the difference obviously, but that is ultimately the point of an homage watch. A fake is a fake. If it says Rolex on it, and it isn't a Rolex, it is in violation of the laws that protect brand names. And by saying, well why not get a fake, then you're going to make a lot of people unhappy very quickly.

A homage piece has nothing to do with what "other" people think, it has to do with respecting the original and it is a tribute to the creator while reminding the owner of the lineage from whence it came. If anything its slightly awkward to wear, not a show off piece, because anyone who knows the particulars of an actual Military Submariner and could recognize it will know straight away its not the real deal

You are not endearing yourself to the membership by touting fakes. In fact, I very strongly suggest you avoid mentioning fakes on this forum ever again.

How can you say that homages are just as bad as fakes, and then claim you own a fake Rolex? I have some things that would not be so nice to actually say on the forum, but I think what I don't say will be clear enough to most of the members here.

That's great! Thanks for doing that. I think this is a great looking homage for the price.

Well, this watch is far from junk, I have been following Alpha USA's progress, this is not your normal fair from China.
The have set up a few systems in place to ensure customer satisfaction including a no quibble 30 day replacement policy. They have also been working closely with the manufacturer to ensure much higher standards of quality. I purchased recently a watch from them and must say for the price I am very impressed with the build quality, mine even came with a timegraph sheet showing mine to be with +7 seconds a day, not bad for a brand new $70 mechanical watch. The movement whilst not grand looks well finished and sturdy, the crown works very well and winding is buttery smooth. Everything works as it should and quite frankly it is quite sobering to be getting so much for so little, especially when I think what I have spent on watches! All in all from a personal user point of view I feel confident in recommending this brand, you've nothing to loose! Oh yes, the build on mine is easily comparable to my Seiko Orange monster though the Alpha adds the convienience of a hacking hand windable movement. I am getting one of their excellent chronographs this month as well! Here is a video from Mark the owner of Alpha USA, it shows his honesty when he himself is suprised at the build quality and water resistance! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MA04Y...layer_embedded |

How many people can afford a Rolex and then think "hmmm, i think i'll buy a "homage" instead" none i'd say.... they're 99% of the time bought by people who can't afford the real thing, but want to give the impression of a Rolex it's a very thin line between a fake and a "homage" is this ok to people on here?..... http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Produc...7C14417316.htm because to me, that's a fake just maskerading under a thin veil of legitimacy, just like the other "homages" in this post what is that Rotary watch trying to give the impression of? something "similar" to a Navitimer (what you people call "homaging") or is it such a good copy....sorry, "homage" that people will think at a glance that it's a Navitimer, I'd say very much the second i've got a real Rolex and a fake Rolex, so what? |
